will72wein,
what kind of difference will 1.5mbps upload make?
how clear will the picture be.. i wish there was some test service that showed the quality of slingbox at different upload speeds..
If you have a Slingbox, you can evaluate performance at 1.5Mbps just by running it in network, which costs nothing.
is the slingbox going to stream at 1.5mbps if i get 1.5 mbps upload service?? anything over 1mbps streaming would be great.. but i'm worried that if i get 1.5mbps.. what if the slingbox only streams at 700kbps? does sling make use of all the upload capacity available? is it possible to force it to stream at 1.5mbps?
There's no guarantee that if you have 1.5Mbps of upload speed at home that you're going use all of that bandwidth all of the time. Say you're at a hot spot where there's a max download speed of 768Kbps, or there are many people using the hot spot at the same time as you, you're not going to stream at full speed. There are also other factors on the web that may make a constant stream of 1.5Mbps difficult. Will it ever stream at 1.5Mbps... sure, but there's no guarantee.
in my area 1.5mbps upload is available for 200bucks a month.. and 768kbps for 100/month
right now i'm getting 300 kbps up..
Unless money is no option, I would call 200 a month a little pricey for the nominal difference you'll get in performance. Can you really tell the difference between a 600Kbps stream and a 1400Kbps stream? Maybe a little, but is that difference worth 200 bucks? The 768 plan for 100 is still high to me, but certainly more reasonable. Considering remote performance is really good at 400Kbps or more, maybe they have a 512 plan that is priced right in the sweet spot.
