Hey,

just to let people know ive started a software website for slingbox hacks and tricks.

On there you can find:

Remove title bars from Slingplayer (so you can view just the video feed rather than all the white box etc)

a new skin! - so you dont have to use the standard white one!

Keyspan Remote Control favourite channels toggle (for those of you who have purchased keyspan and require quick and easy access to your favourite channels)

it might be the windows enumerate in a different order for you, in which case it might resize the remote control or another window, - if that happens let me know and ill try and work out a fix, it works on my computer fine, so thats what im going on, bear in mind i dont really have full access to the slingplayer file, and im doing all the hacks via windows / settings files etc. The way slingmedia have designed the window is very bad, they have classname for windows which are duplicated on almost every window, so when you try and home in on a window handle it goes to the wrong one, - had to build my own system internals software just for reporting how slingplayer was assigning window names and classes etc.

ok cool :)

ive updated it again to 1.1, it now has full screen mode without the control bars always up (for those people who experienced problems when viewing in fullscreen mode) and also has slingplayer move - so you can move the window around via the control.

Enjoy all.

for those of you interested in disconnecting a guest from slingbox remotely. Im sure we've all had the problem where one of our spouses were using it when you want to, and you couldnt log in. Well heres a short fix for that.

This guy is awsome, where do you come up with these ideas?

- who cares, keep'em coming.
Sling On!!

One question. I really like the TiVo skins but would also like to take advantage of the slimmer window. Mutually exclusive or possible with your installs. Maybe it is as simple as swapping skins directories but wanted to understand what I might be giving up in the process before I attempt an install.

Slinging in the rain : the idea's are all in the forum, its what people have been requesting for a while and something i required on a personal level, im on a small laptop screen so using the dock window was not a good option for me whilst working, so i made this application and decided to share it with everyone.

Craig :

there are no skins for slingview it modifies the window directly! - and once you close the slingview application everything will return back to normal with standard application skin.

The new skin (the greyish one) requires you just to replace the skin directory with the new one, simply rename your old skin folder to 'Skin Backup' and extract the new skin folder to your slingplayer folder, make sure slingplayer is closed whilst your doing this.

for those who are interested in how slingview works you can download the source from :

andy (and others),

I just wanted to make sure I reiterate one thing - in an upcoming build we will have a massive change to the skin architecture and I really dont want you guys investing too much time in something that will change soon.

Don't get me wrong - I don't want to discourage the tinkering, I just want to make sure you don't have any wasted efforts!!

Best,
Jeremy

Jeremy.. i would encourage andyBBB and others..
you know you have a great product when ppl start tinkering and spending time to improve it for themselves and others..
a slingmedia add-on development community... great..

January 4, 2006 7:02 PM

I think Jeremy *is* encouraging tinkering. He said he didn't want to discourage it.

I think it's very cool he's giving some direction to where the energy might be spent.

January 6, 2006 1:09 PM

ok cool, i wont add anything else to the utility until the next release is out.

I dont consider it a waste of time doing the tweaking, i love the product, but its missing key features, whether people use the software or not i do, and therefore its not a waste :)

Keep it up brother! Much appreciated!

Very impressive work andyBBB!

TOP TIP : Ive found a small fix for you fullscreen wanters. Set your screen resolution to 1024x768 (right click desktop click properties, click the display tab) and then use slingview 1.1 - set the height and width to 1200x9600 - and use the centering arrow keys, this will now fullscreen without the annoying title / view bars. If your using an external monitor you can use this little trick as well, im doing it right now and it works very cool - it removes the bugs with the external monitor problems as well.

Looks good - however, I've got Telewest Broadband cable, not ADSL, and the maximum upload is 384. Both sides of the Atlantic get both kinds of broadband access, (A)DSL and cable. It'd be interesting to know if anyone's tried SlingBox with a cable set top box here in the UK.
