How about making the device pocket sized so we can bring it on the road with us and hook them up to TVs anywhere we go. It would need a computer hookup only when setting up connections.
I think it's a good idea - only problem is that some people will want it for free since they'll say it's just another client. ;)
I was wondering if there were any plans for slingmedia providing a slingreceiver, a cheap (<= 110$ ) device which can connect to an ethernet connection and output to a VGA monitor, thus eliminating the need for a computer or laptop. - you could probably get the device small than the slingbox is currently as it would only need 3 connectors, VGA out, Power supply, ethernet port. - also could have an IR receiver so you can change channels etc, that would be cool :)
you have most of the hardware designed all you need to do is reverse what it does!
just an idea.

lol,
that would be cool to have it like ipod size, but if u think about the size of slingbox, and its capabilities, it would be quite similar to this device in features, so likely the same size?

I think Michael is right. The key to a device like this is portability. I don't think too many people would carry a Slingbox size box on a business trip with them. However, it would be intriguing for home use as size doesn't matter, but the market wouldn't be as big to justify it.

In the absense of a home receiver solution from SLING, have anyone of your tried anyone elses product to remoteplace source material via ethernet? Thanks Bill
brmiller232, i tried both Sony LFTV and Hava.
LFTV is pathetic and returned to the store.
Hava gives me watchable results at 500kbps and good results at 800kbps. Still, i think WMV to be more adequat than mpeg4 for this kind of work. Also, Hava's sound quality is not as good as that of Slings.
As for a Sling catcher, you can make a small box using a mini-ITX motherboard, having Windows open the Slingplayer by default (by putting a Slingplayer shortcut in the startup folder).
An ATI remote wonder completes the set and alows me to change the channel like a conventional TV or set top box.
Bottom line is, if it doesn't exist, you can do it yourself. It's a lot of fun.
Please don't post multipe message with the same info/question. One should suffice.
