More accurately, you set the slingbox up at his location, and you connect to his cable or satellite, or over the air, signal. Then you can watch that wherever you happen to be.

If he is using satellite or digital cable, the slingbox will see the same thing that they are watching locally on their tv - you can't watch different things at the same time.

If he has basic cable, you can plug the cable directly into the slingbox and use that to watch whatever you want without effecting what they are watching locally. You can also do this by plugging in an over the air antenna.

If I don't have a slingbox can I watch someone elses programs if they do have one?

you will need a computer and a fast internet connection though.

The SlingCommunity Team would like to remind the Community that the End User License Agreement states that it is a violation to share a Finder ID, or allow access to anyone who does not reside in the same residence as the Slingbox.
