Just to make sure one thing is clear - all our beta testers signed NDAs... hence the general void of chatter...

I've Been Reading this site almost religiously, constantly looking for updates about the mobile beta. I hear that you've gone into the second wave, and I just got my new phone, the XV6700 on Verizon with EVDO capabilities. If you need another tester on this phone..... But, no one has actually said anything about it or has come out and said that they have it. So Sling, come on, lets get another update, and at least can someone post some pix?!?!?
Thanks.....
Ohhhhhhhh.....That would explain it....
Sorry about the confusion. But maybe you could post some screenshots?
You can see some videos if you check our CES coverage!

Sling (JeremyT?) - Would you consider opening up beta testing of PPC's to more users? I am volunteering - I have a Sprint EVDO PDA. I am a professional software tester and very familiar with high tech devices.
Does it work with EDGE? I was thinking of getting the new T-Mobile MDA. I need GSM because I travel a lot. Please let me know. Thank you
Can we assume you guys are having problems - thus the lack of information and your inability to open the beta to a larger group? It's too bad that WM5 is posing such a challenge to developers...
Ben:
It works with EDGE. You can at least link the MDA to your Laptop and stream with your player. I would asssume it would then also work with the Pocket PC version of Sling Player. I have tested with the EDGE network using an MDA as GPRS modem and it worked well with the Sling Player on XP. I was getting 140Kbps.
I am using EDGE but I can't get it higher than 90kbps AND its not consistent. It usually drops to GPRS speeds and my Sling buffer runs out. Does anyone have a work-around for that?
I placed my T-Mobile SIM card in my Sony VGN-T350P laptop (running XP Pro) which includes a built-in EDGE modem. I normally get between 80kbps and up to 160kbps on my Sling Player. But it usually takes about 2 or 3 minutes of optimizing to get the consistent play. But once it is optimized, the stream is great. I'm still dying to test it out my on my MDA.
Ben,
What did you think? I brought one yesterday as well, specifically because my hp 6315 does not support EDGE, which I want for the upcoming mobile player. Actually, reading your post yesterday was part of the reason I went and got one. The power of suggestion. I had been planning it for a few weeks, since its release, but I just had not done it yet.
My thoughts on the MDA:
At first when the girl brought it out, I was surprised at the size. It is smaller than your typical pda. I almost changed my mind, and left the store. But then I thought, well, what the heck, I can live with a smaller screen. Throughout the evening, the screen size grew on me. Now, I don't want to go back to the larger, more clunky Ipaq.
Secondly, it was refreshing that everything actually works. Those who have used the HP 6315 will know what I am talking about. I have been suffering under numerous bugs for a year, having to soft reset multiple times daily.
Love the slide-out keyboard, though I wish it had numbers across the top, especially considering there is enough space to have included numbers.
Speaker is incredible.
Camera is pretty good, and includes a bright flash-like- light.
Now, if I could only test the Sling Player on it, my life would be complete.
Well, ok, complete until the next toy hits the market that is.
Well.. You can use your MDA as a Modem to your laptop. Here is a link on how to se it up for the time being till the Sling Player comes out for the MDA. http://techgadgets.blogspot.com/2006/...
thanks for the link DJC
worked like a charm. To bad I usually don't have my laptop with me when in restuarants, but this will hold me over in hotels.
just downloaded 1.0.5.140 installed it and all. it's showing under help that Iam running 1.0.5.140
but there wasnt a firmware update .my current firmware after installing 1.0.5.140 is 1.0.61 is that right?

Same here. I believe the firmware update was part of the earlier beta builds and wasn't updated when I updated to the latest build. I show 1.0.61 firmware from 2/24/2006 on my Slingbox.
Same here, this firmware version is confusing Sling should list the latest firmware version with the software version, or better yet when they release an official release make them the same name.

I have installed the Beta Version on a new Cingular 8125 Windows Mobile 5.0 device. Works great from my wireless network at home but I cannot get it to connect from any other wireless hotspot or through the GPRS connection, is this a proxy problem or does anyone have a solution?
