Hi everyone,

My SlingBox worked fine for about 4 weeks and just stopped working the other day. The power LED is solid green, the network LED is off and the n in Sling is off.
I tried reset, but it looks like the button is not working at all. I hold it for 5sec, 10sec and even longer, yet there is no sign of reset and no blinking. I tried unplugging, but get the same results.
One more thing - nothing changed in my network settings, and I verified that the netwrok connection is fine (by plugging a laptop to the same cable).

Any idea what is wrong with the SlingBox and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

sl

I had the same thing happen to my SB last week with the network light going out. I spent a bit of time trying to figure out what was wrong with no luck. I also tested with a laptop and checked configurations. Everything seemed fine. I let it sit a couple of days and went back again to check it. This time, I couldn't get the network to work with my laptop on that connection. I swapped out the network cable for a new one and it started working again. Not sure if this was just coincidence or my cable was going bad. Strange, but I've been back up and running with no other problems.

Thank you Ron. I tried with a cable I know is working from another PC, but still the same result.
Any ideas anyone?

I've been trying to reset my Sling also. If I leave it unplugged for a while it will try to access my Linksys router. The lights will blink on the Sling and on the router. I've tried a different cable too, also one that is working on a networked computer. I had added a HBB1 booster, I thought that is what caused the problem but I removed that now and the Sling won't reset or get a network connection. It worked perfectly before. I've tried quite a few things and checked all firewall settings, etc.

I also have the exact same problem!!!

The network led is off even though the router is powered on and working fine. I too have checked the cable with my pc and it is fine.

This seems to be a problem exoerienced by more people than just one person. Jeremy, any ideas?

I have same problem as well. I needed to change some network settings on my router and after I couldn't connect to the slingbox I tried a hard reset, but the slingbox never responded that it did reset.

Currently have slingbox unplugged and will try again tonite. SlingBox was working fine until attempt to reset. Firmware upgrade did encounter an error during installation, where it stated that the SlingBox was currently in use, user[null] account[null] type of message.

Hardware used:
Linksys WRT54G wireless router
Zoom 4400 wireless bridge/gaming adapter

Did you solve the reset problem.

I also need to reset the Slingbox but I am unable to do it. Pushing the reset button for up to one minute does not give any result at all !

I spoke to tech support and found that the issue is with the power supply. According to them, I must have used a wrong power supply and fried the box. For the mere amount of $100 + SH I could send them the box and they will replace it. I have decided to spend the amout on a video card with a built in PVR. sl

Yup, I was having the same problem.  I had a powerlight on, but no network light.  this was very annoying.  it was just go off at some point and then come back again later.   I tried resetting it, taking it to a friends house, starting over, everything...nothing seemed to fix it.

I bought it from bestbuy in october of last year [2005].  I talked to the manager there and he said that their technicians at "geek squad" were having the same problem and it was on their bulletin.  he gladly refunded the money to me.  they no longer have them on the shelf anymore because of a "network power failure issue" that they detected so I could not exchange it.

thank god I got my money back.  I guess i will wait till sling fixes this

Well the store near my home is not selling them.  the spot where they use to sell them was filled with dlink products and the manager said that they were taken out of stock because of the problem.

the tech there said that the box was very sensitive to small electrical disturbances causing it to lose connectivity with the network.  he said that everytime one of their clients turned their monitor on or off ("or something of that nature") , it would lose network signal.   they took my name and number down and would call me once (of if) they recieved a working product (revision) from the manufacturer.

however, the store near my work did have 1 on the shelf...i talked to the rep there and he said that he heard of something like that but their store hasnt recieved any cleareance yet to remove that item from the shelf.

sl - can you please email me with your contact information?

rock082 - may I ask which store you are referring to?

FYI Technicians and "geek squad" are two very different things.  Technicians troublshoot and solve problems.  "Geek Squad" back up your files, format your hard drive and reinstall everything fresh... they are mindless drones.

Finally I solved the problem. The Slingbox came with an UK plug . As I wanted to use it in Paris I used an other electric adapter which I thought was the same.

But it was not. Everyting went back normal when I used the supplied electrical adapter

Happy Ending! I am ecstatic! My SlingBox is up and running again. After posting my messages here I was contacted by the Sling support team and Jeremy Toeman. They have worked with me to resolve my issue, proving that they are all about making a (devoted :-) ) user happy again. I am very thankful for their admirable dedication to deal with the issue, even though it has been weeks since I posted, and even I gave up on it. Any other company would file my issues under 'the one that got away' file, but these guys proved they are as great as the product they sell! sl

Glad to help!

I just bought a classic and went through the setup process.  everything was working fine until I got to the "finish setup" portion of the installation wizard.  The tv picture on the setup disappeared and the program froze.  I had to cancell the application and start over.  Since then, the network light on the slingbox hasn't worked.  Any pointers?
