Hi,

My box is working fine, except I don't have a remote control onscreen (I did for a bit...I just installed the system, but it is gone.) There is an icon for the remote, but it is greyed out and I can't click it. Any thoughts?

Mine did the same thing, to fix go to slingbox, properties, slingbox configuration, audio/video setup (click change) and rerun the setup wizard. It'll work fine afterwards. Does this from time to time, hopefully with the new software this will be corrected. You CAN run this from outside your home.

I have the same problem. It was working fine and all of a sudden I lost the remote. When I go back into A/V setup instead of asking for what device I have connected it tells me that US is not a supported country. Then it goes on and tells me that the device "not configured" was set up successfully. When I try to watch I can view whatever the cablebox happens to be tuned to, but I have no remote control whatsoever.

This happens from all PC's that try to connect to it. I have a second sling box on my network which works fine.

I have re-booted and re-plugged just about everything - but can't get to the proper set-up screen.

Any ideas?

Did you try the reset button on the back?

Yes I did. I also updated the firmware. No matter what I do, when I do the A/V set-up all locations are not supported and it never asks for what my slingbox is connected to.

This has been working for about 9 months. In addition, I have the slingbox connected directly to the coax cable, and that input which used to work, doesn't work at all any more.

I do connect to the slingbox and can watch whatever the cablebox is tuned to, but I have no way of changing the channel form the slingbox. The remote control is greyed out.

OK, cool.

Here is what I would do then, not saying this will fix it, but it's just what I would do.

Go to your \program files\slingplayer folder and rename your SBCore.ini file to something else, like sbcore.old.

Then run Slingplayer, it should give you a choice. Then re-run the setup wizard and see what happens.

I tried it, no change. What was interesting was the ini file had been modified about 1 1/2 hours ago with all my resetting, etc. But when I renamed it, it never got recreated.

When I go to the information tab for my other slingbox it shows the model and ir codes, but the model is blank on for the slingbox pro.

Any other ideas?

After re-naming, when you ran Slingplayer did it ask you which box to connect to? Did it not show your Pro? You said before it did not show you a choice of which SB to connect to.

You may have to hit F-5 to see the new ini file it created, after shutting down the Player.

I'm sorry, my wording was not clear. I always got the choice of which slingbox to connect to, what I am not geeting in setup is the choice of what device the sling box is connected to - the brand and model of a cable box, dvr, etc.

1. From the slingbox directory I select this slingbox pro (I also have an older slingbox which is still working perfectly).

2. Then I select edit

3. Then I selct sling box configuration

4. The A/V set-up - change

5. I see whatever show is playing in the little box

6. I click next and get a screen that asks where is my slingbox located? There is a big warning that my sligbox is not fully supported in this country - USA. No matter what country I pick, I get this message. It say some devices

7. It says this slingbox model does not fully support USA. A/V devices from this country may be missing from the device list and impossible to control.

8. When I click next, I get another warning about picking a bad country. I click proceed as this happens with any country I pick.

9. I get a screen asking which of the 4 inputs I wish to configure and select Component.

10. I click next an can change video brightness, contrast, saturation and slingbox volume.

11. Then I get setup complete (it never asked for the device the slingbox is connected to)

12. Click nect and it asks me to save.

13. I am told setup is successful.

But since it does not know that I am connect to a cablebox/DVR there is no remote.

This was working fine 2 days ago!

Ahh, ok, now I got you.
But, I don't think I can help figure it out. Unless a using the reset button on the box works or you can see if another machine with a fresh Slingplayer install works, I think it's time to try their tech support.

Thanks. I'm out of town now, and I can connect to my slingbox as long as I want to watch 1 channel!

Anyway, I know I can't configure it remotely, so I will have to wait until I get back. I did want to try from a PC that never had sling player installed. But I'm not optimistic, as I have already disconnected the slingbox and removed it from my slingbox directory. After reconnecting, I still had the same problem.

Based on the other thread it sounds like a hardware problem, and luckily it is still under warrantee.

I had called tech support, but you get someone following a script who doesn't know anything. I think I might try emailing with a copy of both these threads. I know they are not going to replace it without wasting hours of my time.

Do you have any influence talking to them? There seems to be a lot of people experiencing this problem.

I am just a mod of this site, no real influence on thier internal workings. If under warantee and tech support can't fix, I would ask them if you could send back and get a new one.

Not that I would love to get my hands on it. It would be fun to figure out what the exact problem is, but that's something I have never experienced with my boxes and I am sure they would love to figure it out.
So maybe it's a good thing you send it back so they can determine the problem and maybe fix it for the future.

EJS, did you ever receive resolution to your issue. I'm now experiencing the same exact problem. Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated.

EJS or Brandon C., any updates on this issue? I'm experiencing the same problem and have attempted all of the troubleshooting tips. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. I was lucky. My slingbox was still under warrantee. I documented all of the troubleshooting I had done, and they sent me a replacement. They seemed very eager to get my faulty box so they could work on the problem. That was 5 months ago, maybe they have a fix available now.

I just got my Pro HD in the mail today, I hooked it up and out of the box it is giving me the "country not supported" error message. Not a good sign for a product that has been in development for as long as they claim. I can't wait to see what kind of mess the sling catcher is..

October 7, 2008 7:45 PM

You're trying to setup the PRO-HD with SlingPlayer 2.0, right? It can't be configured with 1.x. (Well, 1.0.6 on the Mac can.)

-MegaZone, Sling Media Beta Manager
Slingbox Pro, HD Connect, TiVo Series3, TiVo Pioneer DVR-810H, SPM Treo 680, SP WinXP
(I also run GizmoLovers.com)

Sooo frustrating!!! This is a problem going back a year, and tech support still act like this is new. I'm on hold right now while Indian "Charlie" tries to find something new we haven't done yet.

A whole hour of my life wasted.

the old version of slingbox worked fine.....the new 2.xx is giving me the problem you guys are describing. The remote control option is greyed out. the only way to change the channel is to go to the setup option run the test channel option and do it that way. which is way too time consuming. How do we get the old version?? i cant find it available anymore.
