I was in touch with Rich Buchanan about this nearly a year ago - his reply is below. I was indeed asking about a device that would allow you to watch the TV stream. I'm sure that it can be done with a laptop and a scart lead, but my idea would be that a computer would not be required.

It would be similar to an analog telephone adapter, which allows you to make and receive internet calls without a computer, as it would link directly to the router/modem.

The Slingbox will be capable of remotely controlling set top boxes, but I think you were asking about watching [for example] US TV programming on a normal TV (a common expat desire and a common desire to connect a living room PVR to the bedroom TV). We have a product under development that will address this situation, but have not committed yet to a production schedule.

But will they do it? The only IPTV set top boxes that aren't locked are Linux-based, and Slingbox doesn't support Linux.

Well, you could probably do it even now. Not completely without a PC but without having one next to your TV.

I am very new to Sling and got the box only yesterday but based on what I read in this forum here is a sketch of such a pipeline.

Your output device would be a UPnP compatible media player (like the D-Link DSM-320).

1. Run Sling client on your PC.
2. Use Windows Media Encoder 9 to encode the Sling client window (as describe in several discussions here)
3. Use Tversity as your UPnP server. Assign the Encoder URL as a source.
4. Use the UPnP media player to watch on your TV/Plasma
