I have the same problem.  I have the Panasonic DMR-EH50.  If I choose a Panasonic DVD player, I can use play DVDs, but not access the DVR functions.  If I try setting it up as a Panasonic DVR, none of the codes work.

Hello,

I recently created a new remote control .bin file for the panasonic DMR-E50 - it contains the codes for timer, prog shecdule, video+ e.t.c. If you load this code into your slingbox then you can finally use the e50 as intended remotely.

Hope this helps,

Hello all,

Since someone has asked how to load this file into your slingbox, I thought I would post this for all to see…

If you want to modify an existing or create your own remote control files then follow this: (you can load the .rmdu in remote master to edit e.t.c)

Procedure 1

Instructions:

http://www.slingcommunity.com/article/10580/

Please note this procedure is written for the US slingbox. (Therefore it only deals with the JU or PL RDFs, see below for RV UK RDF) Also steps 11-14 no longer work on the latest sling box software/firmware so see procedure 2 below for the new steps)

Download JU or PL RDF for NTSC slinbox:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=2392 (usa)

Download RV RDF if you have a PAL slingbox:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dlo...
(uk and europe)

Procedure 2

Otherwise if you already have a .bin file that you just want to load into your slingbox, see steps 4 to 4.5 in this guide: (this replaces steps 11-14 in the guide above)

So if you want to load my file, select DVR and enter Y0340 in the alternative code list. (make sure you put the .bin file in the SBAV directory)

http://www.slingcommunity.com/article/11832/How-To-Create-Your-Own-SlingPlayer-Remote/

If when you enter the code, it comes up with an error choose a different device type e.g DVD instead of DVR because the codes are tied to a certain devices. (maybe by the prefixed letter e.g "Y" but i'm not sure)

Hope this helps, any questions please ask!

Frank

Hi, Frank121.

I have just bought and installd succesfully SlingBox AV in my home, together with my Panasonic DMR ES10 (which is quite similar in termos of remote control functions to the E50, depicted in yor post above).

However, despite following the steps, I could not load your bin in alternative code list in the SlingPlayer ...

I did put the Y0340_RV.bin file in the SBAV folder, tried DVR and  DVD as the device, with the same unsuccesfull result. When I type Y0340 in the Alternative code edit box and the "Control code setup"step, a message appears stating that "The SlingBox could not load the IR code you selected. Click the Back button and try another code from the same brand.".

Did I make any mistakes !? Any ideas, help or tips would be pretty much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Fabio,

Did you choose "other" device type?

Frank

January 28, 2007 4:15 PM

Hi, Frank.

Yes,  I tried DVR -> then Other (not in the List) in the Device Brand step. The next step (Control Code setup) lists 113 Select codes. When I type Y0340, although having Y0340_RV.bin on SBAV folder, the message is that stated in my email ...

Hi Fabio,

Is your slingbox an NTSC american version? If so you will need a file created using procdeure 1. I am guessing you have an NTSC unit since I don't think that the AV version is sold here in the UK....and also you state that you are putting Y0340_RV (RV being UK file) in the SBAV folder,

Just a logical guess...otherwise it seems you are doing everything correctly!

You can always PM me, if you need further help.

I wish I had seen this thread before trying to setup a new SB Classic with my Panasonic DMR-EH50.  Sling lead me to believe I could have my SB up and running in a very short time.  Unfortunately, not so.

First, can those of you with the DMR-EH50 tell me exactly where the IR lamp is located?  I've looked thoroughy for the diode with a flashlight (SureFire, no less) and cannot readily locate it.  Starting to the right of the DVD drawer, exactly where is it?

Has anyone been successful in updating the SB to emulate the DMR-EH50 remote?

So far, all I have is an expensive brick.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Thank you!

Hi Skydog,

I think the EH50 is pretty similar to the E50 but also has a hard drive , most of the buttons will be the same I'm sure. There may be extra ones for the hd functions but maybe you can use the keymap for another panasonic hard drive recorder, there are some on the  hi-fi remote site. With some patience it's possible to use all the features of the recorder remotely - I can and it works great! Admittently slingmedia really should have created the correct key maps so the sling box works out of the box....

As for the IR sensor, on mine it's on the far left hand side and is not very directional...it took a few attempts to find it....I put the sender just under the AV flap...but it may be different on yours.

Hi Frank,

Many thanks for your quick response.   I'm still puzzled as to how most people are finding codes, as the drop-down box in the setup for SlingPlayer only offers "Panasonic",  followed by another box with "Code 1" through "Code 5", and a blank field at the bottom of the box labeled "Other code."  I've called Sling and they want me to email them with the model number.   Good luck trying to find their email address.

So.. I am going to call them again when I return home this week and not hang up until the setup works!  As you pointed out, SlingMedia should have the codes/maps all worked out for the end-user.   Very frustrating.

My unit design must be a bit different as the left third of the front panel is the disc drawer.  I have one other SD slot/door located in the center.  I've never had any problem locating an IR sensor in the many devices I have owned, but this one is not obvious.

Thank you again for taking the time to repsond.  I very much appreciate your assistance.

Hi Patrica,

Basically people are creating there own codes because sling do not always have the correct device listed or if it is listed it does not contain all the buttons that are on your orginal remote control.

Someone has already created the file for your device, here is the link:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3066

To load this file you need to follow procedure 2 in my earlier email...it's on page 5 of the guide steps 4 to 4.5. It's simple becuase someone has done all of the hard work for you and ou just need to load the file into your slingbox.

Make sure that you select "DVR or DVD" (not sure which one this file will work with) and then "other" (not panasonic). In the alternative box enter the code. (C0340 for this file)

Just to make things a bit less straightforward, (sorry!) you will also need to find out if you have JU or PL slingbox...details in my post above...if you have a UK slingbox then you need to create a RV bin file, this will require using procedure 1....if you want I can create an RV file for you if you get stuck!

As for the IR sensor, I just had a quick look at your player on google...and yes the design is different but if it's like mine the sensor was not in the LCD panel (which is where you think it should be!) so maybe it's in the centre of the unit....the best way to find it is to use the original remote control and cover parts of the unit with your hand (or bit of paper or something!) and then see where the remote control does and does not work...then you should find it!

I hope this mail is clear, lots of info here! As for sling helping you....well you could be in for a long wait if the your device is not supported correctly...

Let me know how you get on and give me a shout if you have UK box and need the RV file....

Hello Frank,

Thank you kindly for your time in providing so much helpful information.  I am indebted to you and the individual who has provided the .bin file.  What would we all do without the Internet?!

My SB is indeed a U.S. version and this was confirmed by exploring my SBAV folder which contains JU and PL files exclusively.  Your instructions could not be clearer and, hopefully, I should have no problem installing the file to get my model DVR up and running with proper operation of the remote.

During one of my conversations with Sling, I strongly suggested that they should include the capability for the SB to "learn" the IR codes of boxes, eliminating the need for hours of trial and error not to mention the large number of calls to their tech support.  Much to my surprise, I was told that the SB Pro does have the capability to do just this, but it is not yet "enabled."  So, I am assuming that with a future firmware upgrade at some point the Pro will be able to learn one's IR code right out of the box, as it should be.

As for my IR hunt, I will continue until I have success.  It was helpful to learn from Sling that upper and lower IR placement (from their supplied cable) is not required.  Just one will do.  I was thinking that perhaps I did not have the direct line-of-sight exactly right.   I've already performed  the blocking-by-hand method while searching for the diode without success.  I'll find it eventually, but I removed and replaced a motherboard in less time than this is taking.  Wink

Thank you again for your invaluable help, Frank, and I hope to be able to report back with successful results (fingers crossed).  I'll know more when I arrive home from my business trip tomorrow.

Best regards,

-Patricia

Frank,

Oops... another question.

Included with the JU and PL bin files (from the link you provided above) is another file,  DMR-EH50.rmdu.

What is it and what do I do with it, if anything?

Thank you,

-Patricia

Hi Patricia,

Yes the internet is so useful...much better than the so called manufacturers support! ;->

No you do need the .rmdu file, it is used for creating the JU and PL files in a program called RM master. This program outputs the .bin files that you load into your slingbox, the .rmdu is included in-case you want to add or modify the buttons/keys that have been created by the owner of the files.

Good luck!

Hi Frank. I am pretty good at figuring out this kind of stuff, but am not quite making sense of this. I am trying to take a file and fine tune a few of the buttons.

I started by getting RM setup and imported an RMDU file. It had all the functions I wanted already in there so I tried to organize them the way I wanted in the layout section. I still dont see where you can setup the "custom 1" and so on like I saw in some of the custom bin files. I exported to a bin file into the proper folder and when I try to get it working it gives me that error. I tried both JU and PL in case I had the wrong one.

the weird thing is I can import other bin files that I downloaded, it just seems each one has extra buttons, but I need something with what both files have put together, if that makes sense.

If there is anything else I can try I would appreciate the info.

Also when I look at the layout it shows a lot of small buttons at the bottom of the remote. If I successfully get this working would those buttons then show up at the bottom? (currently I dont see those on the sling player.

Thanks,

      Kyle

Hi Kyle,

As far as I know the "layout" tab does not affect the remote control displayed in the slingplayer. If you want to change the layout of the buttons you need to use the  "buttons" tab. The custom buttons in the slingplayer appear as FP1 thru to FP10 under the "buttons" tab in Remote Master. Using this method you can customise the keys displayed in the slingplayer software and use FP1 thru to FP10 for more custom buttons (accessed from the sling player remote menu) when you have used all the buttons available on the sling generated remote.

What error are you getting, if it's "The SlingBox could not load the IR code you selected" then the bin file you created prob is not associated with the device you have selected - i'm sure it's something to do with the leter prefixed in front of the number of the BIN file, but i'm not sure.

To solve; try selecting DVD instead of DVR or vice versa...also make sure the code is being enetered in the "other" device box.

Hope this helps!

Frank

Thanks for the reply. Although I am pretty lost, I think I am ahead somehow of what you wrote. I started off missing a few buttons, so I downloaded someone else's bin file. It worked with some custom buttons to get what I wanted.

So now I installed this RM program and imported an RMDU file for my Panasonic DVR. I assigned some different things to the FP#'s you stated to do. I only assigned 1-5 and saved it. I exported it to a file starting with C. now that I used cable in the device type it worked without any errors.

Now however it imports, but I dont see any changes. When I go to cumtom buttons on the remote section it gives me 10-15 and 20-24, but noe are what I setup for it. but nowhere on my button page is there any # higher than 10. It just doesnt make sense.

I thought maybe the file wasnt taking, but I know the file has made changes because the few extra buttons I had working with the other bin file no longer work under the custom menu. I really think sling should just have an extra 5-10 buttons at the bottom of the remote that you could use this program to assign, but under the process I am using I dont think it would work.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I would like to get this bin file working and be done with it.

 Thanks,

        Kyle

Hi Kyle,

I have worked out how to change the letter prefix, you just change the device type in RM under the "setup" tab. If you change it to DVD it changes the outputed .bin file to a "Y" prefix which can then be loaded under DVR in slingplayer.

However, I just played with it and the remote looks the same whenever it is created for a cable box or DVD. So maybe it doesn't matter....

As for the custom buttons, looks like a missed out a bit!

Custom buttons 10 - 19 are mapped to FP 1- 10 in RM. (e.g custom 10 is FP1)

Custom buttons 20 - 29 are mapped to INPUT01 - INPUT10 in RM (e.g Custom 20 is INPUT01)

I have created new custom buttons without any problems, make sure the code/function you are entering is valid for your device, if you are not sure create a duplicate under say a number button (Num_0 for example) and see if it works when you select 0, if it does then the custom button should work too...if not the function/code does not work for your device.

Yes I agree that slingbox should have some remote customization built in....but at least we have RM otherwise we would have nothing!! I think the RM program works well for what is was designed for - one for all remotes e.t.c, and it's just a sideline what we are trying to use it for...so don't give it such a hard time ;->

Hope you can get your bin file working and forget about it! (Like I finally did...apart from the odd post here ;->)

Let me know if it works!

Frank

I'm trying to find out if my Panasonic DMR E500H will work with Slingbox AV before I buy.  Sling customer service has been less than helpful, suggesting I check with Panasonic.  You'd think Sling would be interesting in making a sale and do the right thing by its customers.  Anyway I suspect my machine will work with other Panasonic codes -- the remotes look identical -- but I'm also concerned about running into the kind of problems encountered with the DMR EH50.  Does anyone have any insight or suggestions?
