I was using my slingbox perfectly until recently where sometimes i started having problems connecting remotley. I get the following error message: "The connection attempt failed. Make sure the Slingbox you are watching is on, set up for remote viewing, and not blocked by firewall/NAT settings" Error 0x8007274c.
Internet was fine, no fierewall, the sling box was on, and my wife at home managed to logon from her laptop. Whats weird is that it someimes works if i try to log on several hours later from the same remote location and pc? Any ideas on to whas happening? p.s. I have the latest software.

I am getting the exact same error message for the first time today.

I am having exact same problem - will work one minute then not - and then start working again a few hours later..

What routers are you using guys?

I have a Linksys router. After I had my wife reboot the router and slingbox, it started working again. I hope i don't get this problem again since I live in Amman-Jordan and my wife will be joining me soon, there will be no one left at our house in the US to reboot. We won't be back in the states till next summer.

It does seem I having the same problem then.. I have a linksys WAG54G router - It doesn't quite answer the question why it will work again 4hrs later without reboot.. unless the router does a natural refresh or something. I wonder if it is worth putting a power time switch that could recycle the power to the router each day..?? Anyone is this a known problem with Linksys? or is it a slingbox problem..

Ive had the same problem also .. if your having problems connecting try this :

http://www.lommage.co.uk/slingbox/ind...

if you can still get access to router remotely u might be able to reset it so you can get back onto slingbox.

Thanks AndyBBB will try that. I notice you sited this solution of if you need to gain access if somebody else is tieing up your connection. But are you actually having the same non - connection issue as above . I notice you have a linksys also..

So do you think this is a workaround to get past a limitation in Linksys or something to do with Slingbox?

Cheers

Rob

PS I am wondering it this could be cause of many people not being able to login from work - if sporadically not working then it could be misinterpreted as a Firewall/Nat problem while in fact it is just a fundemental problem with the box seeing the outside world..

- i think its to do more so with leaving the router on for prolonged periods .. the slingbox sends out time commands to a time server every so often .. its perhaps affecting the router directly .. (making it lock up - process alot of information) .. its just a guess though ..

Yes ive experienced the same problem you guys have! - i just get my father to reset it everytime he gets home from work once a day, seems to work.

Yes this is what I thought. I assume once reset it takes time for it to update the Finder Service as well.. hence more delay.. though this locking up would affect internet access but it doesn't seem to its very strange and not good me thinks...

Probably a bit of a wild shot - but I have found a newer version of firmware for my box 1.02.9 - previously 1.02.7 - I am hoping this might iron out this connection issue.. probably hoping too much but hey ho!

linksys are so crap - I have just found another update 1.030 Beta 4 - I have upgraded to this so fingers crossed perhaps this will sort me out..

I experienced the same problem the past few days. I live in the Chicago area, but went on a business trip to Dallas. Hotel had free internet service. I found I had to open iexplorer and log onto their service, minimize the window, and start the sling application. this worked without a problem. But......there were time that I could not find the sling box, but was able to log into my Linksys WR54G Wireless router. While in the router I tried to ping the Linksys wireless game adapter connected to the sling box it it failed. There is no way to reset my Linksys router via the web interface!!. Waited a few hours and it would work again. I think it's more of an issue with either the router or the linksys wireless bridge and not the sling box. When I ping the wireless bridge I assume I'm pinging the bridge's IP address and not the sling box, but not sure. I have port forwarding on, etc.... When cpnnected to the router remotely I was able to ping 5 other devices on the network no problem, just not the bridge/sling box.

Nope firmware didn't help .. it worked a couple of times this morning then stopped.. with same old error! :-(

Logging on to my router is fine and dandy.. so no IP change or anything since this morning.. so isn't a finder problem.. and router is still functioning.

Anyone shed any light..? :-)

PS Just for the records my sling is directly wired to my router so no bridges or wireless connections involved..

LOG Today:-
9am - All working fine
10am - Ceased Working but logged on to router fine
11am - Not working - router still contactable same IP

Well I am little confused - as you can see from post above didn't have much luck with connecting today.

It seems to be the slingbox just becomes unreachable and searching through the forums it seems it seems to be commonly Linksys routers..

Jeremy do you have any suggestions?

well... i have one question... my slingbox is here in new york... my son, in tucson, upgraded to the new sling version on his laptop and lost his ability to connect. I upgraded the software at my office and also lost it. however, on this laptop, i am still running the old version and connect just fine. could the new software be part of the problem?

March 23, 2006 8:17 PM

ummm... i didn't realize that i am on the LAN here on this laptop that is working... seems as though the slingbox isn't getting out, and it's not a SW upgrade issue.

March 23, 2006 11:52 PM

check the port your using on the slingbox .. and the one which is setup on your router.

Thanks for the help. It turned out to be a router issue (the router had reset to a dynamic IP address and I use a static IP address.) and I believe it's resolved. No problem Bounder... I posted here because I was getting the same 'Error 0x8007274c'

March 24, 2006 11:02 AM

Hi Lucky,

So glad you got resolved ... and apologies and thanks for clarifying the error message... that is more interesting than I thought because it seemed to me this error message was given when the IP address could be found not problem but there was no slingbox to be found. But from what you have said it wouldn't have been even finding you?

I am still getting this issue all the time and it is very frustrating as everything is setup correctly!

I wonder what this -
