I have a clean install of version 1.0.5.140 of the sling player and cannot find a file named SABV.cfg.

It appears there are a lot of people with the same problem.

In the folder C:\Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\SBAV there are 3 cfg files, SBAV-PK.cfg, SBAV-PL.cfg and SBRemote.cfg. Each of these files appear to be binaries and cannot be edited.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm assuming there is an error message displayed when you try launching Slingplayer that reports the missing file.

I have the same three .cfg files on my computer that you mentioned. I don't find any file named SABV.cfg on my system. My Slingplayer is working fine without it.

Why not try creating an empty text file using Notepad (assuming yours is a Windows system.) or the text editor of your choice. Name it SABV.cfg and see if it still indicates the file cannot be found.

At least it's something to try until you get a response from a Sling technician.

Re-install original software, make a copy of SABV.cfg and then copy it back to folder.. I think that worked for me last.. cant remember very well right now ;)

Mark:

Yes, the only SBAV files that should be required are in the SBAV directory and they have various extensions like _PL.

What is the exact error message you are seeing?

Brian,

I believe the problem Mark is running into (me too) is that all the instructions for creating a custom remote definition say to put an entry in the SBAV.cfg file, but it's not there since the last released version. I read a post last night that an entry in the SBAV.cfg is no longer required - just put a bin file in that directory, but I'd like to see that confirmed.

Joe in Dallas:

You're absolutely correct about this confusion. We changed the .cfg files and just putting the custom bin file in the sbav directory and then typing in the custom code you used in the alternate code text box will flash the file.

The only adverse affect of not editing the sbav file is that when you upgrade from one version to the next you have to reconfigure your A/V device. We'll fix this in a later release.

Great! That's just the confirmation I need to go back and revisit my custom bin file (RCA DTC210) that was giving me an error the last time I tried.

Thanks for the info!

how do you draw that "custom code"?

i've exported the .bin of a file (upgrade necessary for my starhub cable box from Singapore) to the folder but can't flash it.

filename is c2000_JU.bin.

on remotemaster the setup code is 2000 but i can't just key it into the slingbox setup.

where do I go from here?

http://www.slingcommunity.com/article...

using the abovementioned link as a guide, my main problem now is that when I type c2000 into the alternative code, i get the standard 'cannot load IR code' line.

it worked! realised i needed to use PL not JU. apologies for the triple post

Hi guys, I've read the threads posted and I'm rather lost. It would be appreciated that someone post a step by step instruction on how to let me have control over my SCV setop box. Thanks!

Here is the way to make this work...

Forget about the .cfg files. You do not need to touch them.

If you do not have a .bin file for your remote, you may be able to find it at this forum. In my case I downloaded the Viewsat.rmdu from http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dlo....

Open it with RemoteMaster 1.49 and save the output file for each PL and JU remote code type.

You simply copy the .bin files you created with RemoteMaster 1.49 to the C:\Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\SBAV folder.

If your .bin files are good, you can simply enter the filename in for the remote code when you are configuring the remote.

In my case I created and copied 2 files, S2046_JU.bin and S2046_PL.bin, one for each possible version of the sling box. I then entered S2046 for the remote code and things worked good.

On my first attempt, the files would not load and I found them to be corrupt. I found a second .RDMU file for the Viewsat 2000 and it worked, but I was missing some keys. In the RemoteMaster 1.49 application, I chose the option to automatically map the keys, exported and saved new .bin files for each remote type (PL and JU) saved them to the Sling Box C:\Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\SBAV folder and things worked.

Good luck.

Brian, you still around?

Useful info, we've slowly been working this out on thread 14352.  Good to see confirmation has been sitting here for some time.

But I disagree with your assertion that there's only one disadvantage of no longer having SBAV.cfg.  There's no (as yet), RM upgrade file that works perfectly for a UK PAL SA 8300 (Telewest TV Drive).  So I have a reasonable starting point from a US remote map for a similar machine that I'm editing to produce a perfect bin for my remote. I'm also without a JP1 learning remote.  I'm sure that many others are in a similar situation.

So, using RM I'm having to guess button positions and fuctions to produce new bins which I then trial with SB to improve the map.

As far as I can tell, with old SlingPlayer, I'd have been able to see exactly the function map from sbav.cfg and edit as necessary, saving the slow trial and error approach.

Can you tell me if there's a way to read (and edit is possible) the button maps in new SlingPlayer?

Thanks

W

C'mon Sling - sort it out.

To Sling Product Management

I have a slingbox connected to a Telewest TVDrive and Can't access the PVR functions. A high proportion of posts on this forum relate to controlling devices. It seems like a high priority fix to me looking at the evidence.  I am a software product manager myself and the advantage you guys have is excellent direct feedback from 1000s of users. I know its always a question of priorities, but guys this is a major limitation of your otherwise excellent product.

I would appreciate a statement regarding support remote programming so we know where we stand. Why not open up this section of the code to the community and let them take care of the problem.

Thanks,

Jonathan
