Here is the problem:

DVR..Dishpro DVR... 9 codes available.
DVR..Echostar/DISH Network... 18 models available.
DVR..Expressvu... 5 codes available.
Satellite receiver..Dishpro... 5 models available.
Satellite receiver..Echostar/DISH Network... 30 models available.
Satellite receiver..Expressvu... 4 models available.

So many choices, no useful descriptions.

You need to know one simple thing here: With the exception of the 7100/7200, ALL DISH NETWORK (and Expressvu) receivers can use THE EXACT SAME REMOTE. The 5.0 IR "green key #1 DVR remote" is the common denominator here. This one remote can be set to 31 different codes to accomodate those who choose to set their box to other than the default.

So, to reduce the confusion, instead of all the choices that exist now, there should be under Satellite Receiver and DVR, one submenu for Echostar/DISH Network/Expressvu. This submenu would contain codes 1 thru 31, and the 7100/7200. NO OTHER choices for these receivers are necessary.

Finally, these 31 choices should produce the complete remote, and the missing buttons (PIP, SWAP, POSITION, TV/VIDEO and Dish Home) should be added.

I really figured somebody would have commented on this by now. Am I the only one who sees the importance of this?

I wholeheartedly agree. I've referenced this thread in several other posts on this site. I've even linked to it in an email that I sent to Sling media.

I agree completely as well. It's really annoying not having all the buttons enabled and having all those useless remote profiles.

I agree 100% it is REALLY hard to figure out which code you need.  Sling needs to make the remote selection process easier.  Type in your model number of your receiver and it will tell you what one to use.

BTW I am hearing that Sling and Echostar will have a huge announcement in 2 weeks at Echostars Team Summit in Denver. ;)

Has anyone determined which device to chose for the VIP 622 so that the correct remote appears. The only remote that turns the TV on and off is not a DVR.

carols,

I downloaded the new 1.4 software that isn't supposed to work with the slingbox classic and it appears to work fine. The echostar remotes are a lot better. I'm using the code "DISH (remote address 4)" under DVR -> Echostar/DISH/Expressvu and my IR remote 1 address is 4.

It looks like sling might have taken some of my suggestions, the remote now looks and acts like the latest 5.3 IR that comes with the ViP622.

Pepper,

Thanks so much. It worked!
