Anyone found a way to access the EPG etc. on Telewest's TV Drive?

StephenD: Hi, what code (Cablebox-->??-->??) are you using to control the TVDrive and can you tell me what buttons are missing? Thanks very much for your feedback. B

Hi Brian. I'm currently using the Cablebox -> NTL -> Other to control the TV drive.

Here is a photo of the Telewest remote for reference (sorry it is on its side!): http://www.telewestinfo.co.uk/TVDrive/TVDrive_RemoteControl.jpg

Unlike the NTL offering, the TVDrive is a PVR as well, so all the PVR functions are missing including; Record, Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause, Play. Also it isn't possible to access the PVR functionality of the box as there is a "TV Drive" button on the Telewest remote that isn't there on the NTL.

The four coloured buttons are important too, as they are used for setting recordings, etc. On the 'virtual' NTL remote, I need to press YELLOW to active the RED one, and BLUE to activate the GREEN one. I cannot activate the RED and GREEN button functions.

Incidentally, Telewest use the Scientific Atalanta Explorer 8300DVB for their TV drive - it might be a close cousin to the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD which I think the US Slingbox supports - not sure though.

Cheers,

Stephen

I'm also trying to use a Telewest TVDrive.

I've got some control over it by using:

 Cable Box > Scientific Atlanta > Other > Code 1

From the remote, MENU > SETTINGS brings up the EPG.

I've not found any way to access the TVDrive (PVR) funtionality or the red/yellow/blue/green buttons needed to use the record and playback facilities. Once in the EPG the only way I can get out of it is to go all the way through and select a channel.

I can't find an equivalent to the TV button on the physical remote, which would return me to normal viewing.

Stephend - do you mind sending me a quick email with your contact information?

Djguk - have you tried using the "pull-down" remote control (above and to the left of the graphical remote) to see all the additional buttons that may be available for your device?  If the commands are there, you can set shortcuts to them in the favorites bar below the TV window!

Best,

Jeremy

djguk: If you use the Cablebox -> NTL -> Other option, there is a 'TV' button that works.

Cheers,

Stephen.

Stephen:

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the NTL devices. Knowing it was an S.A. box I thought that was my best option, but obviously not!

 Jeremy:

I've tried the "pull-down" remote control and have also added various items to the favorites. Nothing seems to provide the TVDrive and coloured button functionality.

djguk: One other thing - using the NTL remote allows you access to the RED and GREEN buttons (though bizarrely you must click on the YELLOW and BLUE buttons respectively to activate them!)

It also looks like the green button may act as the yellow. Pressing it from within the EPG gives me the options I'd expect after pressing yellow (record series). Unfortunately the red doesn't act as the blue (next day, etc)

 Try as I might, I can't find anything that'll get me in to TVDrive proper though. Cry

Nor me, though word from Sling is that they are working on it...

Hello Telewest & Scientific Atlanta STB owners,

Our brilliant engineers here at Sling did a little poking around in the remote control database.  We've got a couple of codes in the device listings that you might want to try out.

CABLEBOX --> PACE --> Telewest Digital 1
CABLEBOX --> PACE --> Telewest Digital 2
CABLEBOX --> Scientific Atlanta --> Code 1
CABLEBOX --> Scientific Atlanta --> Code 2

Can you let us know whether any of these seem to work better than the NTL code you're currently using?

Also, it would be super if one of you with the box in question could contact me directly - becky at slingmedia.  I've got  a couple additional questions and possibly some more involved things for you to try out.

Good luck!

Becky

Hello Becky,

I have the Scientific Atlanta TVDrive (this is different from the standard Scientific Atlanta set-top-box from Telewest, as it is a High Def compatible box with PVR functionality). I tried the two Scientific Atlanta codes you gave:

Code 2 didn't work at all.

Code 1 did allow limited access, but with fewer features than we can access using the NTL remote.

I've dropped you an e-mail.

Cheers,

Stephen.

Hmm, ok.  Thanks Stephen.  Did you try the other two?  Sometimes the codes get miscategorized, and sometimes they'll work the same for multiple devices.  It's worth a shot, right? :)

I've tried the two Scientific Atlanta options. They provide only a subset of the functions available from the NTL codes, nothing additional.

In the mean time, is it possible to import US Slingbox remotes into UK ones? I think the US Scientific Atalnta 8300HD will work with my box.

Any update on this? I would love to get my PVR function up and working by the weekend.

Have the same issue using beta software release but when select  TVDrive remote it seems to default to the basis default cable remote.

Hi All

I'm in the same boat as the rest of you, although I purchased my slingbox in the US and I'm currently connected to Telewest in the UK with a Scientific Atlanta TVDrive PVR box. I'm using the 8300 IR codes and have tried the different variations suggested above but I still cant access the EPG nor the PVR funcionality as provided by the TVDRive button on the remote control. Has anyone managed to crack this and if so please share. The Slingbox isnt much use if I cant access the program guide to schedule recordings or to access recordings i've already made. Many Thanks in advance

Hi Smoothbond,

Are you using the US software for your US slingbox?  I noticed they have code for the American 8300HD (which includes PVR and looks much like the Telewest one) under Comcast (I think).  Have you been able to try that?

I had a couple of messages from SlingStaff on other threads where they indicated we will soon be able to programme a remote ourselves (which I assume would help us out with this problem).

I'm told the release of this software is imminent, so fingers crossed.

Can anyone from Sling give us an update on this, and whether you think it will address the problem encountered on this thread?

Cheers,

Stephen

Thanks for the response Stephen, I hope its soon as well.

Was just adding to another old thread on this subject.  Delighted to read that there's a chance we might have user-programmable remotes sometime soon.  Surely this was a no-brainer from the outset?

 For the record I'm using the NTL remote, accessed through the previous Cable menu.  It doesn't allow PVR playback or direct record, but it is possible to access the EPG (and shut it down again) and to record programmes and series using the coloured buttons.

Please note that the buttons don't actually correspond to the colours/labels, but they're mostly on the keypad, saving hassle of drilling down to "custom" codes.

 Anyone from Sling watching this?  I'd really appreciate an update.  My interaction with Sling staff to date has been poor at best.

C'mon Sling - sort it out.
