I will be selling my Slingbox on eBay this week. It works great, I just don't use it as much as I thought I would.

My question is this:  I updated the firmware bios on my slingbox and have been using the new version of the sling player. When I sell my Sling, will the new user be able to use the old version of the sling player that came with the Slingbox when I purchased it.  I have the original cd and don't want the new owner to have problems since I updated the firmware on the Slingbox and he's trying the old software with the new firmware.

Is this going to be a problem.

 Thanks

I don't know offhand but how about doing a uninstall of the player you have now and installing the CD and see what happens?

Have a Sansa device or MP3 player, then check out The latest!

I believe you can downgrade the firmware too..  I think you'll need to delete all the newer firmware files from the program files\sling media\slingplayer directory for it to use an older one but it should work.

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

How transferrable are slingboxes - surely it must be major disadvantage that someone knows your finder id- obviously there is a password that can be changed but you can't change the Finder ID?

Would this worry anyone else..?  Sure it probably doesn't matter that much...

One thing for sure that you should before selling a used Slingbox:

Factory-reset the box by pressing and holding the reset button for 7 seconds.

this reverts to earlier firmware, purges the settings like IP address etc..

How does the Finder ID work? Especialy if your ISP does not give a fixed IP address?

GUndecided

I assume the slingbox polls slingmedia's servers and they keep a database of the current IP address against the finder ID - hence the ability to find the slingbox.. if that makes sense..
