From the New Slingbox Entry Properties;

Direct Connection:
For remote connection, I prefer to use a doman name or IP address instead of the Slingbox Finder (for advanced users).

What would be the pros and cons of either setup? Thanks!

Slinging to my PPC6700 is the coolest.

using the ndame/ip allows you to connect from any machine that you can get the software on, without you needing to remember the long number.

Also, if you did something untoward, say against the EULA, Sling could not just remove your Sling ID from their server and leave you without access.

There are some other reasons, but, those should suffice.

Whatever combination of port/protocal the finder uses, it is blocked by my work location firewall.  Getting direct to my slingbox via a dyndns link works fine.  Reason enough for me.

I believe I have the same problem with my employer blocking the sling finder's domain (or whatever you call it). I'm new to the Slingbox, so how do I connect directly to my slingbox like you did? Or what is the slingbox domain so I can ask my employer to not block it. I want to sling from work!!!! Thanks in advance.

Your employer has the right to block your access. I guess you are not getting paid to watch TV at work.  The IT can block all types of access so even putting in your own IP into the sling wont necessarily help you.
