I am having the same problem. Did you ever get a solution?
Hi, I am having trouble viewing my SlingBox from outside my home network. It works fine inside my network (i.e. when at home) and I have set it up to be available for remote viewing. When I set-up remote viewing it said I would need to do port forwarding on my router which I set-up according to the settings available at portforwarding.com as they weren't available on the Sling site. I have a Sitecom WL-108 wireless router. I have tried connecting to my Slingbox from a broadband connection outisde my home but I get "Error 0x80072751: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host". I have searched the forums and web for this error in conjunction with SlingBox but there is only one mention, which is on the SlingCommunity forums, but it is a side note and there is no discussion of it. Is it something I have done wrong with my port forwarding? (The port forwarding instructions for the Sitecom WL-108 and a SlingBox are okay for the first half but then there's a couple of lines that make no sense and then it repeats the first half with a few differences which worried me a bit.) Has anyone else had this error? Does anyone know how to fix it? I don't know where to start. Thanks for any help that can be given, James.
I get the same error. Actually, if I reset the slingbox it works for the first connection, but then the next time I restart my computer I get the error again.
Hi,
The good news is that I did get it working. The bad news is that it is some time ago now and I can't remember exactly what it was that solved it.
It was one of two things. First, I did a lot of resetting of the SlingBox, my PC and the wireless router the slingbox was connected to. Second, I set up port forwarding on my router using the instructions at www.portforward.com. It was a little bit of guess work as I didn't unserstand what it was doing at first but I understood it more as I did it (it opened gaps in the firewall for the Slingbox to operate through).
Sorry I can't be more specific but I remember thinking at the time "I wonder what I did differently that made that work?" when the SlingBox started working fine.
Thanks,
James
I had this problem. Resetting the Slingbox had no effect. Resetting the Linksys router fixed the problem. I now make it a habit to reboot the router every weekend when I'm at home which seems to be working for me. YMMV

Hi,
I have the same problems with a Netgeat DG834N. Interestingly whenever there is no Internet I get the error "0x80072751 A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host" so I am putting this down to no IP. Otherwise I have port forwarding set up on my router which is working for all kinds of other services but doesnt seem to work for slingbox. For whatever reason after running the SB remote connection wizard (either with uPNP or static IP and prot forwarding selected eveyting seems fine for 12-16 hours but then mysteriously the SB becomes invisible to the outside world again. Booting SB or router doesnt help, but if I RDP into a local PC, run the SB wizard again and then connect remotly it will work for another 14-16 hours. If I leave SB running it never looses the connection and will timeout 14-16 hours after last use. Obviously my next step is to swap out the router (I have tried increasing uPNP boradcast time and hops etc) but if anyone out there has any other suggestions they would be greatefully recieved!
Cheers l
I also have intermittant connection problems, but having had my SB since Dec 2005 without a problem, all of my connection issues began the day I made the latest slingplayer and firmware upgrade... otherwise, nothing has changed for 15 months. I live in Sweden and my dad's got the box in Georgia so resetting the router while I'm watching depends entirely on whether my dad's sleeping or at home.
It's become a little like russian roulette to see if I get that "1 pending" message when I start up the player or if I get stuck with the 0x80072751 message. I can usually connect within the hour or half hour if I have time to wait, but my morning sportscenter has been cancelled more often than not for the last couple months.
I have spent some hours on the phone with SlingMedia customer service and they really had no solution for me despite checking the router (a D-Link DI-604, which worked perfectly for a year).
I have seen all the tricks... telnet (hasn't worked), resetting SB (works occasionally which tells me firmware screwed something up (again, depends on Dad)), resetting router (doesn't work)... sometimes I wonder if it's my dad's internet provider's upstream (unfortunately 384kbs, but tends to fluctuate some times). Please help.
Sean
I got mine to work by changing the port forwarding settings and ensuring that the slingbox was properly identified with the right setup on the router. The step by step instructions on the slingmedia website for my router are what I used.
I get this error even inside my house - has anybody got to the bottom of this? It's driving me CRAZY.
Yesterday, everything was great. Today, I get this error message. NOTHING has changed in my network.
I have a Slingbox Pro connected via a Linksys wireless bridge into a Linksys WAP. The network is 100% good, I have verified it - everything can see everything else. I have tried rebooting everything - SB, bridge, WAP, router, PC - no change.
SlingMedia - step up and address this please. You have an awesome product when it works but it is SO FRAGILE. I have a masters in computer science and 20 years experience in the computer business and I can't work this out - what chance does the "ordinary Joe" have?
If you ever really want to be a force in home entertainment, you have to fix this crap.
Thank you.

Not pretty - attach the SB directly to your router, hit the reset button, then fire up SlingPlayer. That will bring up the setup wizard and you have the pleasure of setting up your SB all over again (you do remember which of the 900 Tivo options was the correct one, don't you??)
No one at Sling tech support could tell me why the SB just disappears off the network occasionally, but it does...

Well, it seems to me, that they ought to get off their behinds and fix this problem. They advertise the product as being able to be accessed from anywhere. It appears that this is not true in all cases.
It is generally reliable as long as everything is configured correctly. Most of the problems I've seen reported boil down to issues on the router, usually the port forwarding configuration. Especially when people use UPnP and the router decides to arbitrarily flush the config. Manual configuration is much more reliable. UPnP is a joke - unreliable and a security risk.

Then I started gettting this error message 0x8007275 and unable to connect for a couple of months. My sister called from her home (where the slingbox hardware is installed) and told me yesterday (Jan. 5th) that she was able to access it after just putting the software on her PC for the first time. I tried again and was successful. However, after trying to update the software & reconnecting later on received the error code message all over again. The customer support line rep told me that the error code indicated that I needed a "socket update". Well, I have another friend from New York who gave me his finder ID and password and it's working fine again for me. I want to be able to access the slingbox hooked up to my sister's TV in New Jersey (Direct TV). What do I do next as the customer technical support of slingbox is all but useless. Thanks, Nick
Ciccone61, I had this problem for a long time, then while I was in the US I called Sling and they remotely accessed my father's computer and fixed the problem, which was related to the firewall on my father's computer somehow. Prior to the fix I bought a new router for the Slingbox, which may have also helped, although the original router worked for a year before problems started. Since Sling support fixed the problem I have had 0 problems.
I had the same exact error msg as all of you and have watched the techs solve this issue first hand through remote control of my computer. Once inside your own network you need to go into Computer management. If you don't know how to do this you shouldn't be in these settings in the first place. Once you're there under Services and Applications you expand the Services menu to find all the services running on your computer. Here you will find the list of all your offending firewall services.
After shutting all of them down (or so I thought) I was still getting the offending error msg. The one I overlooked was the Symantec Core LC. Once this service was stopped I could regain control of the Sling.
The above did not solve my bigger issue that all of us shared which is the sudden and unexplainable loss of remote connection which has happened to me quite a few times and is almost always associated with powering down my router.
Oh yeah. I found out my problem. Once the power cycle happens to the router (Linksys WRT54GS) for whatever reason it resets my IP setting for my Slingbox to xxx.xxx.x.237 instead of xxx.xxx.x.101 which is in my settings in my software on my phone and computer. This is why I couldn't tunnel back into my Sling from outside my network.
It's been 18 months since I contributed to this thread...I'm long overdue giving you an update.
I never got to the bottom of the 0x80072751 problem in my own network but a few weeks after posting my rant above, I took the SB off my wireless network and hardwired it into my ethernet switch.
The problem went away *instantly* and I have had absolutely zero problems of any kind ever since.
