Hey All you PAL slingers..
Slingbox's PAL box has been out for a while now and apparently sold like hotcakes so I am hoping we have a good many of you coming here for advice and learning.
I am really interested in pushing for making this Community a little more PAL focused as to some I have spoken to can feel it is a little to focused towards our NTSC counterparts. Which is fair enough when we are probably out numbered - not sure by how many but would be interesting to know I think.
So what I would like to push for in subsequent builds in the forum is at the very least a flag or something you can set in your profile to indicate where you are from and if you are using NTSC or PAL. And if possible one day a Forum heading that is for PAL box users. Much in the same way as on the www.tivocommunity.com has.
So in the first instance would it be possible for all PAL users to reply to this thread with the following

So there you go I have started. If we try and keep the posts in this thread to one per Community member we should get an idea from the post count the number of us here... :-) Obviously if people want to make extra comments we can start a new thread specifically about a PAL centric forum.
<EDIT THIS HAS GONE TO POT SO IGNORE REQUEST FOR ONE POST :-) >
Look forward to meeting you

Echo comments about separate PAL area. Also, when Slingmobile comes to the UK there's sure to be a whole host of issues that pertain to the UK networks. Any news on Sling for Palm OS or do I have to upgrader my phone to Windows?
Must admit this thread was never the runaway success i hoped as I beleive there is more than three UK Slingers - if not that answers the reason we are getting mobile player yet!!! :-)and perhaps a PAL area on the forums There has been rumblings about symbian and palm due to the new Slingboxes released having these logos printed on the box - these were actually covered over before going on to shelves but this shows there does look like there will be some movement here in the future

sorry about that, ddidnt know!does slingbox support HDTV? and can you fully control your sky + box(record etc) ok with the sling? until sky moves my current digibox(its 20 odd feet away from my router currently) on Friday i have my sling rigged up to a frieview box.I tried it a couple of days ago remotely at my mates house and was fine. For what its worth i also tried it with ethernet connection and i must say the streaming through the ethernet connection was great.i guess the whole point of the sling is to access wirelessly but if you are in an office or somewhere static where you are near an ethernet point i would highly reccommend it.
Hi Stan - not trying to be unfriendly and truly welcome to the forums but most this is a little off topic for the thread - search would help u with most of the questions but in breif
Enjoy slinging and perhaps leave an entry answering question in first post in this thread :-)

Hey Matt - a warm welcome!
Welcome to the club.. more firmware on my pal box is 1.0.19 28/7/2006 and I am using 1.4 version of slingplayer.... when you download the new slingplayer it will update firmware as well. I am using a classic slingbox which isn't officially supported in version 1.4 of the software - which is only available fromm US part of www.slingmedia.com - but no ill effects but if worried don't use it :-) But there is not much risk except perhaps bugs and stuff..

Hi Stan, Can we keep this thread on topic as I have previously mentioned to you already, post this question as a new thread (hint - controlling your slingbox would be approriate catogrey..also would be an idea to let us know make and model -definately on the front though...) thanks!

Actually I have two :)
I suspect that my PAL slingbox is the first UK registered one ( given the problems I had to even get it registered. )
It works fine, but I don't like the encryption, and in my experience sling are not the most responsive of companies. I have loads of ( sensible ) enhancements to propose if I were to be sure that someone was listening.
Yay, thanks to bounderboy for pushing the envelope.....

Connected devices: Cable TV, composite camera. DVB-T is also working, but got very choppy video with home made antenna.
BTW, I have this feeling that both PAL and NTSC models can decode both types of television signals. I have seen a PAL SB decode an NTSC signal from a DVD player correctly.
The "PAL" slingbox is more likely an "European" slingbox with the locally used UHF/VHF connectors instead of the F connectors used in the US.
I wouldn't be surprised if this all is actually true and not just a feeling :)
Slingbox is in Ware in Hertfordshire. Love it and I have sling mobile on my Vodafone 1605...fantastic.

I'm no expert (EXSPURT), because an "EX" is a has been and a "SPURT" is a drip under pressure.

Would have posted sooner but only just noticed this thread! Bought mine from PC World a week or so after they were made available in the UK. Have been involved in recent Beta programme re. SlingPlayer for Windows, hopefully be involved in some of the other Betas too!

Actually mine is an NTSC Slingbox bought from ebay a month or so before the PAL version came out in the UK. I read all the horror stories about probable lack of availability of the UK boxes, and decided I didn't want to wait any longer.
My Slingbox works very well with my Sky+ box plugged into the A/V inputs. I obviously don't get the DTT channels available on the UK version, but I don't think that's a great loss (we don't have a roof aerial at home, so it would be a hassle to set it up to receive those channels in any case). I also can't access a lot of the recorded programme functions on the Sky+ box, but, again that's no real loss, as most of it is full of stuff the rest of the family record, and I have given up using it as I never get to watch any of my stuff. I use a DVD recorder for anything I really want to keep. My main reason for having the Slingbox is for live sport, particularly cricket, so I'm not really bothered about remote access to recorded programmes.
It has been interesting to read some of the posts which are adamant about the NTSC boxes not working in Europe. The A/V inputs are not fussy about what form the video source is, provided you don't unplug it while the Slingox is switched on, in which case it reverts to NTSC and you get a black and white picture with lines across it when you re-connect.
