First off: Great job guys. The product is looking slick. And it's nice to finally be rid of the "BETA" page each time I start Slingplayer Mobile.--Yes I bought official Smartphone version as soon as it came out.

Two issues I've discovered are the "Play" and the "DVR" button do *not* work when added to the Favorites bar. They DO work however within the standard menus (Remote Control -> Menu -> DVR and Remote Control -> Playback -> Play) Not a showstopper as I can still access these functions through the standard menu but please add this to the list of fixes for the next release.

I've added quite a few other functions to the shortcut bar and the rest of them seem to work with no problems.

I DO miss the phone keyboard shortcuts (holding down the # key for 2 seconds)... Any chance of getting this back or is there something I'm missing?

Anyways, great job all around guys. This product is extremely refined for the smartphone. I always show it to my tech friends whenever I get the chance. I think I helped sell a few slingboxes in the last week alone :)

I'm absolutely gutted I can't get this for free - I was stretching my pennies as it was buying the UK version back in June.

Just got the email proudly offering the Mobile version for free, and yet, I as an existing customer have to pay 30 dollars! I'm being penalised for buying the Sling product earlier than most.

It realls 'sucks', to use an American phrase. What happened to good old customer loyalty?

This version states it's not for the UK slingbox anyways....

& 1 quick question....
Whats the difference between a pocket PC and a smartphone both running Windows Mobile 5? I have an Orange SPV M500 running WM5.
Is that a pocket Pc or a smartphone? :)

August 22, 2006 7:10 PM

The M500 is Smartphone.

If it has a touchscreen, it's PocketPC phone edition. Non-touch screen is a smartphone.

PPC's can usually run SP software but not the otherway around....

BTW, I've been using PPCs in one form or another for the last 5 years at least, and I didn't think I'd like not having a stylus/touchscreen. But I have to say, I love how apps are written to be used one-handed. I really don't miss PPCs all that much...

But still, as much as I love my Tornado, I'm eyeing an HTC prophet. Guess it's that seriously decent 2MP camera and the extra buttons to help with the one-handedness :\

Anyone know where the official release for Windows Mobile can be loaded as a free upgrade for those who got the free product?

August 24, 2006 8:42 AM

ooops, I meant M600 :)

http://www.business.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Business&c=OUKDevice&cid=1142943295399

& the M500 seems to run PocketPC edition and the M600 runs WM5..

So is it not the case the M500 is a PPC and the M600 is a smartphone...

August 24, 2006 2:14 PM

OH. The M600 IS the HTC Prophet I mentioned above. (HTC manufactures the devices and sells them to various carriers, etc.) The M600 is a PocketPC. (it has a touch screen)

Its can be a bit confusing since both devices are considered Windows Mobile 5.. One is smartphone (My Tornado) and the other is PocketPC phone edition (Your Prophet).

Congrats on a great device. I'm thinking of getting one but might wait until the TYTN is carried by Cingular now that I hear it is working with Cingular's umts network in the US... Perfect for a slingbox :)

Back to the original thread topic:

Is anyone else having issues with the smartphone screen not going dark when "watching" in audio-only mode?

The screen used to go dark in audio-only mode with the Beta version.  Now the darn screen will not even go dark if I switch to the phone's home screen while continuing to sling.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much for reporting this issue. We identified the problem, and issued an updated version on our website earlier today (Specifically, it is v1.0.0.31 when you launch SlingPlayer Mobile and go to Menu > Help > About.): http://www.slingmedia.com/us/support/spm_sm_recs.php

This info is also posted on our Support site: http://www.slingmedia.com/support/search.php?articlePage=1&articleID=210236

Thanks for your continuing support and looking forward to more of your feedback.

does anyone know of a link to a list of what the shortcut buttons are?  it seems like they took out the numeric shortcut thingfrom the beta (where you went from 123 mode to sc mode).  it seems like the shortcuts are done on the qwerty (got a moto q) but i haven't been able to find a list anywhere as to what is mapped to what...

August 29, 2006 10:11 PM

here is a list of shortcuts for SlingPlayer Mobile for Pocket PC, which also works for compatible smartphone devices with QWERTY keyboard:

BTW, the shortcuts mode is no longer there in this version, as it is now replaced by the Favorites icons.  But we are certainly taking suggestions for feature enhancements.  Thanks!

Vicky, thanks to you and the team for taking care of the Play/DVR problem so quickly. I tried it out and he problem has definitely been fixed.

At first I thought I would miss the Shorcut mode but the shortcut bar works really well (it's great you can access the bar in fullscreen mode)

One feature request that someone mentioned was to automatically send a pause to the DVR when you receive a call on your phone... If this could be done that would be a great feature. (But... not if it causes issues with stability... Like the player freezing when a call comes in, etc.)

fantastic, thanks for the list...

i wouldn't mind a mute shortcut on the leyboard itself, i assume its programmable as a favorite but i was gonna fill that whole thing up with channels....it was nice to be able to do the volume that way too...with it being a phone and all, its handy to be able to control that factor when in public places and stuff, sometimes it catches you off guard

ultimately, it might be nice to even be able to program the keyboard shortcuts thru the software itself....

but instead of harping on minor things, would love to throw a shout out for the good things too...i do love whats been done with the favorites bar, icons, two rows, nice...programmable slots as well...the look is much better as well....i miss the shortcut toggle from the space bar but i can get used to that, it was fairly easy to make mistakes by not knowing what mode you were in so smart enuf to get rid of it...no replay shortcut on the qwerty board though for tivo....

Vicky-

I wish I knew that my MotoQ worked with the PPC shortcuts earlier! That gives me back most of the capablities I felt I lost when you phased out the number key shortcuts. One request - the website you linked to says Skip+ and Skip- are ] and [. Problem is my keyboard doesnt have those symbols readily available and, assuming those are what I think they are (TiVo Instant Replay and Quick Skip), I miss those the most! Any chance you can also map those to 2 adjacent unused keys such as A & S or B & N?

Thanks for a great package!
