Ok,

I am at college right now and am not able to see my hometown football or hockey games. I am going to go insane if I cannot watch the Buffalo Sabres. So I found the slingbox. I am trying to decide if it will be worth it, soley for the purpose of watching home sports games.

Now I will be streaming this from Buffalo to Purdue at around 400 kbs. I would ideally like to watch the game with decent quality at around a 700 x 700 pixel range.... really anything medium sized. The download speed as in most cases will not be a problem, around 13 mbs max, but realistically around 1600kbs. The computer hardware will not be a problem either.

For all you hockey or sports fans, can you please tell me your experiences with watching such programing remotely. I am not a huge quality fan, but I really need to be able to see the puck movement and players. If anyone has any screenshots that would be the best realisticly.

Thank you and I hope the slingbox is my solution.

Based on experience, you'll need a better upload speed than 400kbps to watch sports.

I've seen baseball at streams of 700kbps and it's pretty good, but not great. Still a fair amount of compression pixelation and stuttering. Following the ball is almost impossible, and I have to reply a lot on the announcers to tell me what I'm seeing.

For what it's worth--when I went to college (20 years ago), I didn't keep a TV in my dorm room. I got better grades than I ever earned in high school (when living at home and having regular access to television).

I didn't give up baseball altogether, though. While studying for finals in the spring, I always listened to my hometown team on the radio.

With satellite radio, you could listen to all your local games while studying. Kill two birds with one stone!

Good luck with your studies.

Cheers,

Japanime

The pixel range i believe is 320 x 240. Can't expect much with that amount of upload speed especially sports.
