Hi all,
Did Slingmedia do something to disable our workaround to eliminate the Upgrade Nag or am I doing something wrong? I moved the two bin files:
SbPb1_5FwV1_0_9Current
SbPbFirmwareCurrentV1_0_80
They are now in a different archive folder in the program directory, but I am still getting the upgrade nag when I start the Slingplayer.
Thanks,
Tman

in that case, whet clay said. But, I find the newest software to be a bit better than the older releases, and, it has the cool "kick off" feature.

If you have the "80" firmware, you can use the newest software without any encryption. Best of both worlds.

Slingbox ... properties.

Does the "80" mean "1.0.80"?

I'm using 80 with the old release. The new release doesnt have all the keyboard shortcuts the old one had for my SA8300HD and I use a physical remote that maps to those shortcuts. Also in full screen mode, whenever I press a keyboard shortcut the menu and status bars come in and shrink the picture. This doesnt happen in the last release.
If you want the best of both worlds, you can copy your old slingplayer folder to a new directory and then install the newest one. Then you can run either.
Yes, "80" means "1.0.80".
And, raleman is right, thjust copying the directory to a different place works, and is a good idea - IMHO.
Keeping the old software is also important if you ever need to "downgrade" the firmware, as the newest software will not let you flash the pre-encryption firmware.

I understand that I can go back to an older firmware by setting up Slingbox using the CDROM which came with the Slingbox. Now, what does "copying the directly to a different place . . . " do?
Copying it allows you to use either player, and to easily upgrade/downgrade the firmware. It saves the time of having to install the Cd version, flash older firmware, uninstall the software, install the most recent version. Also, the older player seems to be a bit less resource intensive, so, if you have to use it on a lower spec machine it might make the difference between decent viewing and ... not so decent. I keep both versions on a USB memory stick.

I recently updated the Slingplayer version to 1.3.0.176. Does this process also updates the firmware ? The properties indicate that the firmware version is 1.0.89. I wonder if this is the version in the CDROM which came with the Slingerbox I bought a month ago.
Sorin et al,
I managed to downgrade/upgrade my Slingbox Tuner via the following:
1.) Windows Control Panel - Remove old Slingplayer software
2.) Reset Slingbox to Factory Default (5 sec reset button loads hard firmware)
3.) Install old Slingplayer (v 1.1.0.153) from http://rapidshare.de/files/37143649/SlingPlayer_1.1.0.153_full.exe.html
The older player seems to only work at QVGA resolution (320x240). For some reason, the Slingplayer software complains that a USA installation will not function correctly! Further, it seems to think my "Tuner" box is a UK Slingbox.
Slingplayer Slingbox Properties Info reports firmare as ver 1.0.0 now (9/21/06)
Any ideas on how to get the newer Sling Player to work with this firmware version/configuration.
BTW At-Large-Recorder seems to work fine now!
Thx for your help,
Astrobuf!
New to this but my goal was to schedule slingbox video recording at a future time.
You will need
1, Slingbox I have the Pro"Purchased last week" but it should not make any difference which you own.
2, Older Slingplayer software. I'm using Ver 1.0.5.140 foung on this site.
3, AT Large Recorder and Replay AV Can be purchased together here
http://www.applian.com/index.php
You can't record with at-large with the latest Sling software however you can use both versions at your selection.
Just install each into a folder of your choice and use whatever .exe you wish to use. I use the latest software when I want to watch now TV and use the old software for record now and scheduled recording.
Issues!
Update Nag Screen on older software.
A member here suggested to remove a bin file from the install directory. That has worked.
Delete SbPbFirmwareCurrenVxxxx.bin from your install directory. I copied and saved in case.
After all your software is installed and you want to do a live recording. Just start At Large and the Slingplayer should also start and hit record on AT Large.
If you wand to schedule a recording? Start Replay AV. Set it up to record "slingbox" You will have a choice.
Set the channel, time and date. Replay AV will start both AT Large, and the Slingbox .
The only program that needs to be open is Replay AV for a scheduled recording .
Why we have to go through all of this??? Why can't we just record the new software?? If you have been reading here, the new 1.4 and earlier software is encrypted. At Large can't record with this new software and is noted in red on their web site.
Be glad to answer any other questions if I can
