I setup my Pro with the HD Component cable to my XBox 360 today.  It works at all resolution settings on the XBox 360 from 480p to 1080i.  The cool thing about this setup is that it can view the WM9 HD content that you can download from XBox live or ATSC content that is recorded by a Media Center PC from its ATSC tuner.

The video looks amazing; even at 3000kbps on the LAN.  To set this up do the following:

1. Connect the XBox360 HD Component cable along with L/R audio into the input jacks of the Sling HD Component Dongle, plug this dongle into the SlingBox Pro.

2. Connect a set of RGB component cables into the output jacks of the Sling HD Component dongle and then plug those into your HD TV.  You can use the L/R analog audio out on the Sling dongle or  the digital audio from the XBox 360 HD Component cable.

3. Place a SlingBox IR Dongle in front of the XBox360 dark tinted plastic IR window.

4. If you are a new owner of an XBox 360 HD cable, setup the resolution of the XBox360 to that of your TV.  My DLP accepts 720p, but the Sling hardware will accept any of the three HDTV sizes automatically (no settings are required) for 480p, 720p and 1080i.  Do this under the System, Console Settings, Display blade, HDTV settings.

5. For the IR remote capabilities, under System, Console Settings, Remote Control (second from the last option) select All Channels.  This allows you to use the IR Blaster for the SlingBox with the XBox360, or any Media Center remote control.

6. Within the SlingPlayer, under Slingbox then Properties (ALT-E), then Slingbox Configuration then Audio/Video Setup; configure the SlingPlayer to use the Component input and choose DVR then Microsoft/Media Center as the type of device.  The model can be Media Center or Other.

7. Connect the SlingPlayer to your SlingBox Pro and choose the Component input.  You will now be able to control the power and navigation on the XBox360 blade system.  Enjoy stored video clips and even use this as a Media Center Extender remotely!

Now you probably won't be able to "Gameshift" or play many games as they look for an attached joystick, but you can view the demo trailers and any multimedia content on the XBox hard drive or any other PC's on your network.  As developers add IR remote support for their games, you may have some luck, but the network delays are going to make you slow to the draw.

Enjoy the hack!  If you get "stuck" in a game that "Back" doesn't work in, cycle power or use the Media Center button on the remote to exit the game session.

This is is basically setting up Xbox360 has a Media Center Extender with HD support.  Unless you provide remote joystick support it's not much of a hack.

I'd be more impressed with a hardware slingplayer. :)

I'd LOVE to set this up.... IF I could get my hands on an HD connect cable!

"We will begin shipping the HD Connect in late November"

I sure hope so!  That only leaves 4 more days (counting today) to make good on this statement.  This media center set up would be the answer to my prayers.  I keep running out of room on my Tivo - so I transfer the shows to my computer... however I can at that point no longer watch them via slingbox.  That's all going to change once I get my HD Connect cable shipped!

Gameshifting... perhaps not.  The issue here is that the buffer will give a seven second delay, which would be eliminated by going into control mode... but when the bitrate drops a bit, you'll get very low quality video.  Unless you're playing fishing, you're probably going to be very disappointed with your remote gaming.  I'd buy a PSP or Gameboy or something, and play XBOX when I get home.  ;-)

RTFM!

I think the main point of the post titled, "Gameshifting the XBox 360 or Media Center in HD" was that you could watch your media files on your network PC's via the Slingbox.

DaveM (Sling Media) barely touched on the idea of gameshifting in his post and even said, "Now you probably won't be able to "Gameshift" or play many games as they look for an attached joystick, but you can view the demo trailers and any multimedia content on the XBox hard drive or any other PC's on your network. As developers add IR remote support for their games, you may have some luck, but the network delays are going to make you slow to the draw."

No one else in the thread talks of being able to play games via the slingbox. I'm not sure why you thought someone in the thread was seriously considering this idea - it would seriously suck.

I have my Slingbox Pro component dongle attached to my Xbox 360 and all is good, except I can not control the Green/Red/Blue/Yellow buttons via IR.  I followed the above instructions and I have access to navigating the Xbox 360 blades and diving in and out to select things, but when I press the "Blue" control on the graphical remote control or the pull down menu control within Slingbox Player, the Xbox 360 does not respond.  All the other IR controls work when I use the Media Center remote control for Microsoft DVRs setting.  I tried using the simple Microsoft DVD remote control, but that doesn't have the colored controls needed to logout of Xbox Live.

Do I need to re-map these buttons to specific IR codes or is there something else going on that I missed during setup?

When I am in front of the Xbox 360, I use a Logitec Harmony 890 universal remote control to operate the colored key functions just fine, so I know I have the Xbox 360 Remote Control setting to "All Channels" working correctly.

Side note: I use the Xbox 360 via Slingbox to start downloading large files while at work, so when I get home they are ready.  I also have movies stored on a terabyte network attached storage device that I can access from a computer running the Zune software which shares the movies via the Xbox 360 in an MPEG4 [.mp4] format.
