Can anyone tell me why with some video sources as in x-10 cam I'm getting a no video detected error but I do get video for a few seconds when I switch from source to source then it goes back "No video detected", What gives???

Myself and several others have exact same problem.  No fix known except possibly rolling firmware/slingplayer version back if you have access to old software. Please call Sling and express your concern, so we can get this fixed!

this is such bs because 70% of my cameras do not work with the slingbox because of this. what version works better and where can I find it?

I do have one question for you guys. Are your cameras Black and White. If they are then there is an issue with the .89 Firmware on the box that if it detects no color(Chroma) after a few seconds it will assume the source is not viable and switch off the input.

Our new Beta release for Version 1.4 will address this issue if you want to wait, or you can contact customer support and they have a version of the FW that will fix the issue that you can use.

Hope that helps

yes matter o fact the two cams that do not work are black and white. one camera was hard wired and did not work unless fed through another device like my cable box aux input to slingbox. thw oher camera is also b&w and does not work but since its wireless and signal is not 100% perfect I chalked it off to that but now it makes sence why it doesn't have a chance at working. when will the new beta be out? really would like to see this adressed. any chance of getting ir codes for x-10 cams using the ir to rf device (which I own)

Yes, mine is black and white. Will contact customer support tonight and post the results. Thanks for the input!

Problem solved with software downgrade. Thanks Sling.  Will keep an eye out for the new software and see if it works too.

File is too large for me to send (75MB).  Called Sling support and asked to be upgraded or downgraded and they sent the file to me.  It is Slingplayer version 1.05.140. No need to change the firmware.  Left at .89 and worked perfectly. Good luck.

so this only fixes video problem via player on pc? I need a better solution because I'm using the sling mobile to watch my cams so I might need a box firmware change.

Well the composite video problem definitely seems to be related to "chroma" detection.  I replaced my low-level BW camera with a cheap color camera and the "no video" problem cleared up.  So now SlingMedia needs to fix this bug which has crept in.  Many of us are using low-light-level black-and-white video cameras.   It was a *bad* idea to implement the chroma detection approach to detect whether a video camera is present because it obviously doesn't work with BW (black and white) cameras!  Come on Slingmedia....help us get our functionality back!

I agree we need a fix bad. most b&w cams are used for lowlight cams that are very popular in our community. please please help us slingbox.

Still no update?

October 15, 2006 12:22 AM

just tested with 1.40 software, the problem is still not fixed...Sling!!!!

October 15, 2006 2:56 PM

I'm beginning to think that the software and hardware teams at SlingMedia either don't talk to each other or have left the company or both.  This problem simply did not exist in the early Slingplayer versions.  It has crept in and somehow the message is not getting back from the field to the software and hardware teams.  Where the heck is the product manager?  Surely he/she knows about this issue.  Why is it not on the official "fixit" list for the next software release???

Come Slingguys.....you broke it ....so fix it.

 Thanks for reading.... --CT

swhats the deal? do we need to call tech suport more and more to get the point across??

May I ask a stupid question?  Why are you putting cameras on a slingbox when you could be using a DVR with a built-in webserver?  That way more than one person can watch at a time, and you have a lot more functionality.  I have 10 cams, and I have a slingbox, but ne'er the twain shall meet.  :-)

October 30, 2006 9:01 AM

why would we want to invest more money on a dvr with a webserver when we already have a slingbox and a dvr from our cable box. I just want my slingbox to do what it is supposed to do sream video weather its color or b&w. come on sling lets get an update to fix this.
