I have downloaded the Slingbox Original v1.3 installation software.  During the software installation, I would get "Catastrophic Failure".  Although the icon to execute Slingbox was on my desktop, it didn't work.  When I clicked on the icon, another error message said to re-install the software.  I've tried this 3 times already.  Maybe it's conflicting with another software?  But  I did turn off my spware and anti-virus software during the installation.

Does anyone know the fix for this?

I ran into this when I was trying to view my slingbox over a remote desktop connection.  If I was logged directly into the PC - things worked fine.

I suspect that there are several reasons why you could get this generic error message so posting more details on how you are trying to use it would help.

Hi! I'm new to the forum! I ran into a problem when I first installed my SlingBox. I have the new SlingBox AV and installed the SlingPlayer 1.4 but got a "Catatrophic Failure" message. Anybody know how to fix this? This thing is brand spanking new! I never had the software before. I'm connecting it via SlingLink to my Netgear V614 v3 router. Any comments to get this thing to work will be great!

SlingBox AV connected on SlingLink

Have you tried to contacting Sling Media? If you are in the US the call is free - 877-467-5464. I suspect that there are similar numbers in other locations. This line is monitored 7 AM to 7 PM PST. If needed, they will use "logmein.com" to assist you in setting up your computer.

Additional information can be found at "http://us.slingmedia.com/page/support...

Are you logged in as Administrator (or a user with an Administrator role) on your machine when you are trying to install?

I just received my Slingbox AV and I am getting the same error on my 6 month old Compaq laptop with windows xp home (I am admin). I found a copy of version 1.2 which I was able to install without a problem. Tried 1.3 but got the catastrophic failure with that also. 1.4 works on my desktop pc with no problems. Anybody find a solution?

Ok, I found elsewhere on the forums to copy the slingplayer folder from a pc with a good install to another machine. This works! I copied the folder from my desktops program files folder to my laptop and the player works fine. I uninstalled the 1.2 version.

Good tip Doug. Doesn't explain why the problem was happening, but good work around!

I'm getting the same error! WTF? Does anyone have a link to some older versions of the install? The one on the Slingbox website is version 1.4

The support folks are NO help at all!

Any other workaround? I've installed the SlingPlayer successfully on 4 PC's but the most important one (the office PC) seems to fail at installing with the same message. It happens when the 'Updating SlingPlayer components...' pop-up is on the screen. Can I update manually?
