You should be able to use the recorder simply by using an older version of the slingplayer software. Have you tried doing that?

Hello,
I had been using the Slingcorder (now At Large Recorder) to record shows as I am located half way around the world and all the shows I like to watch are on at 4am for me, but ever since they added encryption I have not been able to record anything.
My slingbox is located in my place in North America, but no one (including me) has physical access to it.
In order to rollback the firmware, do I physically have to do anything to the Slingbox (classic)?
I also read that I need to use an older Slingplayer (like the one from the CD) but I don't have the CD with me, can anyone help here?
It will be months before I am back in North America to physically restart my slingbox and/or get the CD that came with my Slingbox, is there any way I can rollback the firmware and find an older version of the Slingplayer somewhere?
If it is possible, can someone let me know instructions on how to do so and/or send me the files?
I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

I don't have an older version of the Slingplayer software (as far as I know)... do you know where I can find/download an older version?
It most likely is the player that came on the CD that accompanied your original slingbox. At this point, the updated slingbox firmware still works with the older SlingPlayer - and allows unencrypted recording with the At-Large Recorder.

I don't have the original CD anymore. Does anyone know where I can find an older (pre-encryption) version of Slingplayer? Or can anyone send to me? I'd appreciate it.
Thanks for everyone's help... i found an old install version of Slingplayer on my gf's laptop and was able to install the old version on my computer so I can now continue to record video.
Thanks again for all the help, much appreciated.
Does anyone have a copy of the old version of Slingmedia software or know where I can get one? I recently purchased the Slingbox pro but am unable to record due to encryption. I'm struggling with the rationale as to why they encrypt. With DVRs and scores of other means to digitize media, why would this be any different? Thanks and much obliged.
if you record with the slingbox it is illegal. read the FCC regulations it is rebroadcasting. you cannot rollback firmware. it won't let you

...yet having a tivo and using it is legal...
rules in the US are dumb...

I believe the US Supreme court weighed in on this years ago on a landmark case involving the VCR. Mark is right, it is the same principal as a DVR, VCR or other capture modalities. Call me cynical, but this may be a preemptive move in anticipation of Sling's own hardware/software capture solution.

Illegal where? This is key. I'm not in the USA or bound by USA laws.
If you stream sling thru windows media player you can record from the player. ![]()

And one more tip for those of you with the itch to record. While I have been and still am using ATL for recording there is a device that has made things easier... it is called the Neuros Recorder 2 Plus and I've been using it for a couple of weeks now to record off my DirecTV+Tivo combination so I can play movies on my Treo 700p [EDIT: I do this because I spend a lot of time on airplanes where I can't get internet access and sling from home]. http://store.treocentral.com/content/... is one link and I have no affiliation with either company... just a satisfied user. Granted, you have to be hooked up to your TV source so those of you doing remote recordings w/Sling this won't work for you. But as I do most of my recording at home this just helps me get from video->file->SD Card in one less step.Turns out Neuros is also based in my old home town of Chicago so its nice to see some high tech coming out of the midwest.
