You'll find that as long as Mr. Murdoch is making money, he doesn't care how you watch Sky.

In a feature on Slingbox in What Video and High Definition TV magazine in the UK said: BSkyB says it is illegal to watch Sky programmes outside the UK [and Ireland] and adds that it does not condone, encourage or promote the use of these devices for watching Sky programmes beyond these shores.
That's a bit rich considering that: a) Sky has never taken legal action against people reselling its viewing cards outside the UK and Ireland; b) companies in Spain rebroadcast Sky and other UK channels illegally, using just one subscription instead of one per household; and c) the stream from a Slingbox connected to a Sky box in the UK, can only be viewed by one person.
Viasat in Sweden and Norway are marketing Slingbox under their own brand name 'Viasat Everywhere', and it doesn't condone 'grey market' viewing of its channels any more than Sky does.

Yeah, we've seen this happen with grey market viewing cards for years - Sky could disable them but never has, although people are warned not to phone Sky's customer service number in the UK from, say, Spain (although you can overcome this by using a UK mobile, or even better, a VoIP service that gives you a number with a UK area code). Still, it seems short-sighted for Sky to denounce Sling as illegal, as you're the only person who can watch it.
Yay - yet another good reason to avoid Sky :D
Happy with Freeview here!

It can hardly be 'illegal' to 'watch' a TV programme! For sure, Sky, and all the other broadcasters and cable companies have no legal basis for them to distribute their progammes outside their own territory. Hence you can't listen to Formula 1 commentaries on the BBC Radio 5 website as they only have broadcasting rights for the UK. But that doesn't mean that you can't distribute your own TV programme for watching elsewhere. By their logic, recording a TV progamme and taking the video or DVD outside the UK to watch it would also be 'illegal'. Companies are very quick to claim that activities they don't like are 'illegal' but rarely do they come up with the precise legal basis for their opinion.
maybe this is the place for this post.
