Far as your question goes. I don't run a Mac, but you should not need a finder ID when setting uo via Lan, sounds like it may be a network prob. Give us some specs on how you are setup and maybe someone can help.
hey guys
I had already set up my Slingbox (classic - PAL version) from a Windows PC using the Windows Slingplayer, but when I installed and started-up the Mac beta software (on my Intel Mac Mini, also within my home network) it found my Slingbox immediately.
I didn't need to (re-)do any setup of the Slingbox from the Mac, and I didn't have to enter Finder Id or the box's internal IP address or anything, it just found it immediately like my other Windows PCs on the home network did.
I'm not sure what advice to offer, other than to ask whether both lights are happily lit on the front of the Slingbox, and whether the Mac and Slingbox have both been given IP addresses on the same subnet of your LAN (if you can connect to your network router and view the addresses of connected devices you can verify this).

i'm sorry-i dont's really know what you mean by the IP address thing-what exactly should i do? and for anyone else-what happened was i got to the tuner part and it immediately asked me for my finder id, etc, which had never been given to me on the computer. thanks.
I don't know about doing initial setup from a Mac, so I'll try to avoid taking you (and me) down a deep and unhelpful tunnel. Safest initial things for you to check (before anyone who has actually DONE a first-time setup from the Mac SlingPlayer jumps in to help):
* When you plugged in the ethernet cable from your Slingbox to your router (or switch or hub or whatever you have your networked devices hooked-up to) is the equivalent port on the front of the router lit?
* Are both green LEDs on the front panel of your Slingbox glowing green steadily (ie not blinking)?
If those are both good, then the Slingbox is probably connected correctly to your home network. Debugging what is going on beyond that is going to require either (or both) someone who has done a first-time setup of a Slingbox with the beta Mac client, and/or who can take you through the setup menus of your particular router device to see if there is anything configured in a Slingbox-unfriendly way.

the port on the router is lit. there are two red lights on on the front panel of my slingbox that are staying red. is that right? i'm really confused now.
Something is not right, you should not have to enter any info. It seems like your Slingbox in not connected to the network. If your SB is connected to the network. The Finder ID and IP address should filled in automatically when you try to watch your SB.
New Slingboxes have red lights. The classic has green.

i got the finder id and everything set up. the networking was automatically run through my home network. however, that specific network had a low video signal so i switched it to another network, which is not registering on my remote computer. slingbox setup assistant will not run on my remote computer because the slingboc can not be found. my dad is trying to set it up at home but the main porblem is it keeps asking him to change the port forwarding properties on his router so i can get it remotely, but we do not know how to do that. i do know what setup means, i just meant i did not kow what he meant in the ocntext he was using it. it has been hard because there is no suport for it, but i am trying my best, if you could help me out with what to do with this port forwarding thing, i would really appreciate it. thanks.
OK, let's get some points cleared up first.
