Sorry Brandon, I tend to get annoyed about these things, and thus I'll post some angry blurbs sometimes. Usually though, I have good reason!
As we know, the US/UK versions of the Slingbox are definitely different. The software however, I have now deduced to be the same. I cannot find any difference in the UK version. Installing the UK version does not give me the UK codes (Sky, etc.).
I had the US software on my computer originally, and tried uninstallng it and then reinstalling the UK version. that worked okay, but when I came to "Choose the country you are in" the UK was not an option.
At first I thought maybe there was something about my computer, that it was "remembering" that the old software was on there: I uninstalled it again, cleaned out the registry, and did a search for all files and folders containing the word "sling."
That still didn't work. I'm a computer consultant by trade, and therefore have Ghost "images" of all my computers, so I completly hosed the computer - effectively a Windows reinstall. I even went as far as using the Regional Settings to setup UK English, keyboard, etc.
Guess what? It still didn't work! No UK codes!
Here's what I think happens: The first thing the SlingPlayer Setup does is says, "Where's your Slingbox?" After it finds your Slingbox, it goes through the rest of the setup. As far as I can tell, if it finds a US Slingbox, it will never give you the opportunity to say, "I am in the UK." There is something "hard coded" in there to prevent that, once it detects you have a US Slingbox.
Someone is going to have to reverse compile the software to figure this out. I don't have the time. I've already spent 3 x trips to Ireland (from San Francisco!) getting this setup.
I've also spent a lot of time on JP1 remotes, but still haven't got full remote codes for my devices in Ireland.
Nonetheless, despite my anger and occasional outburst, I am generally happy with my setup. I found some codes that give me Power and Numeric Keyboard on my Irish Pace (NTL) cable box, so I can at least turn the box on and off, and manually enter the channel I need.
Thanks though, and any further ideas welcome!
Macker.
