I have downloaded the new Slingplayer - it also forces a firmware upgrade for the Slingbox. Is this new firmware still compatible with the older (i.e. non-encrypted) player? I make regular use of the At-Large Recorder and do not want to lose that capabilty.

Thank you for any information that can be provided.

The devices that will benefit more from the (1.4 super software update) are the top mobile devices with the best VIDEO RESOLUTION QUALITY (WITH SLINGPLAYER MOBILE SOFTWARE) Smartphones: Nokia'S N73, GSmart i120, Dash, Blackjack, the Q. PocketPc's: Dell Axim X50v, X51v, GSmart i128, 6700, TyTN, TMO'S MDA. Without a doubt, the new (Super 1.4 Software) is truly a Super Enhancement to Slingbox Technology. You can adjust your VIDEO RESOLUTION QUALTY MANUALLY. Kbps have amplified to a higher level above and beyond previous updates. The higher Kbps will notice more on smartphones, than POCKETPC'S or Notebooks, Labtops.  I would like to know your opinion on this matter. On my Dash the resolution quality looks like I'm watching HDTV, but not on my Dell Axim X51v. With the old software the Axim looks like HDTV, the old pocketpc software is better. The (Smartphone software version 1.0.5.41) is one of the best fixes yet to date. The Christmas present all slingbox owners want is to be able use to the AT-LARGE RECORDER. Slingmedia give the people what they want....................!

CiSco,

You've rambled about 4 or 5 different topics in one post.

First of all, on Smartphones or Pocket PCs, you can't HOPE to think you have HD resolution or anything even close.  The quality looks so good because the display is so small.  That's it.  The resolution of a hand held phone is no where close to 480i let alone 720p.

The Slingbox firmware should probably won't do much with the picture quality on the phone.  Maybe it's something with the client software.  Plus the bit rate of the data connection over your phone is WAY lower than the maximum that 1.4 can give you over a LAN connection.

As for At Large, use it with older versions of the player.  I doubt SlingMedia is going to remove encryption anytime soon.

NA9D, concerning the subject matter, you are right, I did go off a little.  I was looking for a better product for pocketpc's, I've test the new pocketpc software on several devices using wifi at different locations. I believe Sling media engineers need to go back to the drawing board and come with a new software for pocketps's that can match the new smartphone version or go back to the old version. The location software on the 1.4 is another super enhancemet I like.........!

I don't notice any quality differences in the latest mobile client.  Of course, my Treo 700W's screen is so small I couldn't see anyhow!

NA9D, notice your device is not (all the HACKERS know this already) one of the top for VIDEO RESOLUTION QUALITY. (smile) The fix for your device reinstall New updated software for your device in the main memory,(Never ever on micro or mini SD card) after you install the new software, cut device off for 30 sec. Now turn back on  your device. Let me know what your Kbps are (range)

NA9D, you device is a PDA. The New (SPM_PPC_1.1.0.95_NA.Cab) is the latest update for PPC software. You are right, you will not see any (Video Resulotion Quality Amplification) on you device, even if you get 10,000 Kbps. The 1.4 software upgrade favor the smartphone not the POCKETPC,NoteBook,or Labtop. Slingmedia engineers will have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a software package that will match that of the smartphone version. Some people have experience SOUND problems with the 1.4 super software update......! Pound for pound, I believe the Dash got the best video resolution quality of all the devices on SlingPlayer Mobile Software............!
