Guy, I know all the experts never told you this before, first of all, make sure your Slingbox is online. Go to NETWOKMAGIC: IT'S A FREE TRY DEAL, BUT IT WORKS, DOWNLOAD THE NETWORKMAGIC SOFTWARE AT (http://www.networkmagic.com)! This software will tell you if your Slingbox is online and monitor your entire (HOME NETWORK). (You will love this software)! Sound like you have Slingplayer software problems. If you download software off of a disk that came with the Slingbox uninstall it. Reinstall the 1.4 and follow through with the firmware update too. Make sure you router is set up correctly and wires are in the right place ,locator's ID For Slingbox, IP address for Slingbox, port number ect. Make sure all this stuff is correct...................! Let me know how things come out!
Right now I am trying to setup the Slingbox Pro like you would the Slingbox Tuner. I am doing this because we only have 1 digital cable box and we have a cable TV jack that's free. I hooked up the cable TV wall jack to the Ant In port on the back of the sling box. I connected the slingbox to my router. Last, I turned on the power just like you're supposed to. I downloaded the software, and the installation went fine. I launched the program, and saw the slingbox directory, so I clicked "Watch." Then it says I have configure the slingbox before viewing it. So I clicked "Yes." I clicked "Next" twice, and get to that screen where it says it's trying to load the settings onto the slingbox and that it will take a few minutes. Well it just hangs there and does not get any where. I have Comcast for ISP, and I just use all of the McAfee products Comcast provides. I even tried turning off the firewall, and that did nothing. I even let it sit on this creen over night, and it still did not get any where.
I'm connecting both the computer and slingbox to a Linksys router. Universal Plug & Play is turned on.
do you have to have a router or can you just go straight from your dsl modem into the slingbox

I actually have a router. I do have a cable gateway which is a modem/router, but it doesn't let you configure routing protocols (either static nor dynamic), so I have this stand along router hooked up to it. I have a third router for wireless purposes only. The cable modem is in the basement, and I ran cat 5e cables behind the walls of my house as we were finishing our basement. That way I put a router in the center of my basement for better signal strength for my wireless. But the sling box and the computer the software is on are both connected to the same router. I have checked all of the connections, and everything is in place. I have tried installing this software on 2 computers, and the same thing happened.
I uninstalled McAfee Privacy and everything now works fine. There's got to be a way around this issue. I know I had problems with Norton Privacy when I was taking Cisco classes. I could not log in to the web site at http://cisco.netacad.net until I changed something in my privacy thing.
