I was wondering if anyone is interested in some kind of Sling Community live Chat venue?
I have done this before in other boards and it has been pretty successful and informative.
There are several ways to do them. Some are open 24/7 and some have set times and dates, like every Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
If there is some interest maybe we can talk Matt and the capable boys into looking into it. Then once setup maybe we can even get some of the Sling Media folks to drop by. Shoot, maybe we can even get a one on one with Blake and see how good he really is at Big Lebowski trivia. Wink

Hate it? Love it? Indifferent to it? inquiring minds wanna know.

Brandon:

A good idea.  I would particpate for sure.  There have been times "chatting" with others through the strings and that can be anoying and take longer than necessary sometimes.  In addition, it we have participation from the folks at Sling that would be cool too.  I am guessing for newbies with easy questions it would also be helpful, though not having the great answers to questions as a string would diminish the searching somewhat.

Bringing this back up, Just for fun I added a small live chat area to my Blog. Just to see if folks are interested. Not a full blown chat interface but a test to see who may be interested in live chatting.

To regress a bit, my blog is basically something I have been playing with to learn some stuff and I don't have a main theme or anything like that, just misc. info I put up.

But we can use it to test out Sling chatting, if quite a few folks are interested I can easily make a full chat area, with all the bells and whistles, or even better talk SlingCommunity into doing one.

You can see, when there, if I am logged on or not and if you register others can see you too. If you want to remain anonymous, that works too.

I'd be very interested in guaging participation. We have no problem looking into implementing a live chat feature into SlingCommunity if it's something everyone really wants.

There are alot of threads that go back and forth between 2 people.. Some people that go into chat and don't get any help might take it personal though..

Just restating my opinion from December - we all learn a lot from reading and being able to search the posts.  If the chat became significant for answering questions then we would lose out to a degree.  On the other hand there have been a few times when a quick chat with someone would have solved simple problems in short order.

Some people that go into chat and don't get any help might take it personal though..

I would think that if someone did not get an answer in chat they would try the forum. I think cisco is the only one here who takes things personal.

Who's Cisco?? I get PMs from people periodically who can't get help in the forums.. Usually when they're really busy..

They might. Depends on the answers. If responded to correctly, so they know they are chatting with other fellow users, not Sling Media it would help.
My hope is that it takes off, Slingcommunity adds it and we can have special 'talk to Sling" nights, or talk to Matt nights.

ryan:  Good point about someone being busy and not have the time to do a thorough search and reading through everything to get an answer.  Been thr done that.  cisco is the dude that was the instigator of that huge thread about the superspeed router which i read from time to time for a chuckle... not important and a poor attempt at a joke by me.

The other problem is that people are afraid to ask a "stupid" question in a Chat or forum. Hence the PM or email. I would hope that everyone would feel comfortable asking any question, regardless of the simplicity, but that is not always the case.

Here's a perfect example, we could be having this conversation in a chat..  This is becoming a worthless thread...  Sorry we ruined it Brandon...

As a 24 hour update. Had a few folks stop by and say hi. One with an actual problem to solve. Which I didn't... yet...

So I decided to add a little more advanced chatting software. Feel free to stop on by and give it a test drive.

Just cick on the Blog Chat to join.

As an update....
The gauge is pretty low. :(
Seems not many interested. Maybe we need to promote a special night and time?

Not many people were interested last year, so it was taken down.  Easy to put back up,  but don't know if anyone is really interested in it.
