Sling's are illegal in China.

But I have several people hooked up tou our sling server and provide three satellite systems on one sling for them to watch in China.

Illegal in China yes. The Chinese government does not allow slingboxes to be sold there. Ask the Asian Rep Office in HK they will tell you.

Providing sling services is not illegal..

I would guess there are limitations as to who can purchase the service?  Do they have to have an address within a specified area?

There may be exceptions to sharing discussions, we may have to have Matt sort that out..

Yes good idea.

When you're  in a world community you need to understand that what is legal in one country may not be in another and vice versa.

Obviously people would stream from one country to another. I've run my sling on international flights that have internet access.

Was quite funny actually. I took a flight from Asia to the USA and wanted to watch Monday Night Football live. It was after I'd finished watching the English Premier League live ( I get all 380 EPL games ) SO my satellite comes from South Africa which is hooked up to my sling in Asia and I'm watching it flying over the Pacific.

Sure did cause quite a stir Laughing

Any one can provide the sling service to allow me to watch US TV in China? at least let me try it a few days before I buy Sling box.
Another question is: I am currently travelling in China, can I ask my brother to buy sling box and set it up in his home by using his computer? Do it make me watch TV in China now rather than bring my laptop to his home when I return?
Thank you.

I don't own the slings the customer provides their own. And I ddidnt sign any EULA  agreements..  funny how sling rep in Taiwan promotes slings for streaing and hosting lol....

Anyways noit really an issue with eula....  it's not illegal and the EULA can only be enforced in the USA.... it's not legal to try and enfoce that type of agreement in Taiwan.... it's called restrictive trade practices....

But never mind I don't use slings for streaming much anymre as I use another companies product which is chepaer and superior... oops

Problem from the US into China seems to be the Great Firewall of China lol....

Speeds are all over the place and often below 150k.  Altouhg a sling I have in Colorado I can connect in Taiwan with speeds gernally around 750 to 1000k.... just that comcast sucks bg time..

Has anyone tried to use Sling in China?
I'm going to be there for several months with an internet connection and would be
nice to from my home in usa.

I was in Beijing May of last year and was slinging from my home in Illinois with no problems from the Beijing Hilton. I've done the same from Athens, Sheffield, Turku (Finland) and Tel Aviv in the last 12 months.

I sling from the USA to China. The "Great Firewall of China" does not block it. You can google TechwarePC.com and contact them about their Legal hosting. We have about 7 families in China using their service. I have one that I use from my home in the US. All perfectly legal! You should be able to set one up in your home in the US and watch it. I would recommend a TIVO or DVR for convenience.

The sling controls your device back home so as long as the IR codes are in the bin file for your unit then yes the sling can turn on closed captions on your system it is controlling.

Thanks a lot. Have you ever tried to turn on it and watched the CC? I thought sling box controls my cable rather than TV unit, showing caption is a function of TV set. If I am right, how does Sling box show CC?

Adding to my original question of using sling.box in China: I'm now in China, just south of Hong Kong and the Sling player on my laptop says there is some firewall preventing me from accessing my sling box back in the States. The firewall is not on my laptop so something is preventing me from using it here in this part of China. So looks like it's not viable in some parts of China?

I have used the system in China for 4 years now desktop home and laptop/handphone while traveling with no problems. I have never experienced any firewall problems anywhere in China. Expect 300bps maximum.

I run good upload speed. That is crucial. Also use fixed IP addresses.

If you want to see the speed I have just email me and I will let you test it on one free to air channel Australia Network.

Overall my system currently has 110 plus channels but we are going to be adding more.

There are many good free channels available from different satellites that we wish to add in such as the BIG TEN Network which carries all the college basketball.

just contact me on skype blackcrusader or msn jimedstein@hotmail.com
