I showed this to Brandon tonight. Whatever you would see locally is seen remotely, including mouse movements. It also supports file transfers and chat between the local machine and remote clients...Brandon grabbed some of my "collection" for his wife.

Make sure don't set it for Windows logon, else it will function like Windows' Remote Desktop. You'll also need to have the correct port(s) forwarded in your router (the default is 5900). There is also a java client for it so it can be used within a web browser (port 5800).

If you have family who frequently ask for your help with computer issues, install this on their computers and help them - remotely.

Slingplayer *works* through UltraVNC, though the performace is less than stellar, of course.

First of all, thanks for the tip. I installed it on my server and it works great!

I was using PcAnywhere, but it is alot slower. So made the change and it is actually a pleasure to login to my server now.
Now, wife wants to see what else I can add to the collection. Laughing

I've been using ultravnc for about a month - works great  - I use it as a virtual KVM for a couple of PCs that I have set up as servers.

I have file transfer enabled (checked box) but it doesn't work for me.  Any hints on getting that to work?

Thanks,

Chris

I don't really have any hints, as it just works for me (and Brandon, apparently). The only "configuration" that was needed was to set an UltraVNC password; everything else was left at default settings.

Thanks.  Are you using the Web Java client or the VNC Viewer?

I found using the web client (which I didn't know existed until I read your post this morning), I can transfer files with no problems, but using the VNC Viewer client, I get the dialogue box saying connected, but the progress bar never moves, and no files ever transfer.  I've tested this from within my LAN and across the WAN - same results either way.

Thanks again,

Chris

I use the VNC Viewer.

Have you tried using a different computer as the client for file transfers?

I noticed just now when connecting to my Linux box that the file transfer option was not there; probably something in TightVNC I have to configure to enable that.

I'll have to try from another computer...

I'm using Ultra VNC (latest version) - doesn't seem to need anything configured for file transfers.

The UltraVNC Server is only for Windows. You can use the viewer to connect to any computer running VNC. A VNC server in Linux requires a bit of configuration.

As an FYI, a version for Vista is in the works.
