My Slingbox Pro crashed yesterday and after I power-cycled it, all the video that comes out of the HD Connect Cable is severly banding. However, video that is coming out of the Composite or S-Video looks fine still. Bitrate doesn't matter, The banding is so extreme, you can see it even over a 768k Internet connection all the way up to a 100MB/s LAN connection.

I've tried power-cycling again. I've tried the PC Client and the Mac Client. I've tried running through a guided setup with all the defaults. Somehow all the images that come out of the HD Connect cable are banding extremely. Images on my TV with the Passthrough look fine though.

Has anyone else experienced this or has any idea how to solve it?

Banding on HD Connect

I've done some more research and I've found some other interesting bits of information. It seems the more I increase the bandwidth the worse the HD Color Banding becomes.

I've now also tried setting and unsetting the Component cables on both the Slingbox and the TV. I've also tried setting and unsetting the HD Connect Cable.

The SlingBox Pro is not hot to the touch and is very well ventilated. I've been using this box with the HD cable for over a month now without very many hitches. It occasionally had to be rebooted before (annoying) but it has not needed to be reset in a few weeks now.

I'm attaching two addition images from the same frame on two different inputs. The HD one is the 16:9 (obviously)HD Image

Composite is 4:3

Alright.. I got a new HD Connect cable and that doesn't seem to have solved the problem. Is anyone else getting this? The only thing left seems to be the SlingBox Pro itself. I'm attaching two more images for people to look at to see the severity of the compression banding.

Phil,

I see you've tried different cables, reseating the cables, etc. Have you played with the Slingplayer software itself? Do you have more than one computer or phone you could view it on? Did you have the HD Connect before the power cycle - as in did it work as expected once upon a time?

To Dave Zatz:  Yeah, it looks like he had it running fine...

I've played with the Slingplayer software a lot. I've also tried it on multiple computers on different platforms and they all have the same problem. It did work at one time though. When I first got the HD Connect Cable it worked flawlessly for around a month. I'm going to try a new Slingbox Pro pretty soon and will report back my findings.

I've not seen this problem with my HD-Connect.  I've seen other quirks such as the fact that changing input formats is very slow and sometimes results in no video being detected - particularly with static images.  My HD Connect has a lot of problem detecting the video coming from my Roku HD-1000.  The menus are static and I sometimes have to switch the power on and off a few times.  That's the bigget problem I have with it...But not to hijack your thread. Back to your original post, you said it happened after the box crashed..  That leads me to think it's something with the pro itself..

Well Guys..

Got a replacement Slingbox Pro today. All the color banding is gone now. Seems like a bad Box. Here's an updated capture from the HD stream of a previous image I've submitted.
