I currently sling from the US to Israel, but I will be moving later this year to the US, and I want to reverse it.

I saw some threads that wern't too clear, but they said that it is possible to sling from Israel using the US version of the slingbox.

Israel uses PAL.  All I want is to use the cable tv company's (Hot) basic service, and use the slingbox's tuner in order to control the chanels.  Is this possible?

If not, what about using it with a set top box either from Yes (Israel satelite company) or Hot (Israel cable company) and having the slingbox use IR to control the set top boxes?  Will this work?  Or do I need to buy the UK version?

 Thanks

I think you'd definitely be out of luck using the internal tuner. Apart from the differing colour system, the frequency band and spacing is probably totally different too.

Also, not all PAL is the same when it comes to RF. There are different versions where the sound is modulated in different ways - you might get no sound, even with a UK Slingbox.

UK Slingbox (not sure about US version) connected to an STB using Video / Audio cables should work, as long as you can get the remote codes.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

Acutally, I just checked, and Israel uses PAL B/G.  The UK uses Pal I.

The BG and the I are for the TV tuner standards, so that might not work, but the PAL is the same and should work with A/V cables.  As for audio (not thru a tuner), that is universal everywhere, so that shouldn't be the problem.  So from what I am seeing here, I should be able to use it, but I will need to use it with a cable tv converter box, and not have the slingbox used as the tuner.

But what I was really interested in knowing is if someone found a way to use the USA NTSC slingbox in Israel, because I saw some posts here that weren't very clear, but it seem like that is what they were doing.

Hey Kingweb

Checkout Subbu's message regarding using a US SB, with UK software, in India (PAL) - on the internal Tuner!

I'm amazed that it works!

Hi George,

As an ISraeli I'm also intrested in putting a US slingbox AV in Israel and watching Israeli programs from my current stay in US.

I was wondering if this worked out for you, and if it did, maybe you can share what need to be done to make it work?

February 18, 2007 4:34 AM

I haven't done it yet.  My family is coming on March 1 and bringing the sling classic with them.  As soon as I get it, I will test it out and update this thread.

I am expecting it to work, since several others have said that they have used PAL with a US version.  The tuner will not work, but the AV inputs will.  This means that the AV portion of the Slingbox is both PAL and NTSC because even in AV signals, PAL and NTSC are not the same.

Thanks, please do update. By the way, if you're going to use the AV outputs, should there be a difference between the Slingbox classic and the new slingbox AV? I'm thinking of buying and using the later.

February 18, 2007 8:59 AM

There shouldn't be a difference assuming that Sling built them in the same way, but you never know.

However, I think I read here that someone used the classic with PAL and the AV inputs, so I am hoping that it will work for me too.

I was told so good stuff about the 750, that you guys with that device are getting very high (Kbps) is this true?  Are you enjoying  Mycast Orb in style, all your Movies and music on one device, plus you got the slingbox. Guy, you got it going on!...(LOL)

I didn't get it yet, I bought it online and it will arrive in Israel next week along with my Sling classic.

Hi all, I thought you would be interested to know that i'm slinging from Israel, mainly to Poland and some other European countries i'm traveling to, with a slingbox AV bought in the US through Amazon and which were sent to Israel through one of those specializing web sites. the slingbox is connected to a dedicated Thomson decoder from HOT and is connected to the Internet through HOT as well. my connection is 2mb down and 1mb up and i'm getting a consistent 940-980 kb with the sling here in Poland, Berlin and some other places i've checked lately. there is no problem with the PAL/NTSC systems. i hesitated in the begining but decided to try anyway, when the box arrived, just plugged it with composite (RCA) to the decoder and it worked like a charm... no need for PAL/NTSC converters or anything like that. the only thing i'm having truble with is the remote control of the slingplayer control only part of the Tomson decoder. there is no problem with channel changing but you can't control HOT's remote custom buttons which means inabbilty to watch VOD or order PPV football games. this problem is temporary as i have asked one of my employees to build me the serial cable which will allow me to connect the HOT remote and capture the exact codes and then apply it to the slingplayer. i'll do it in 2 weeks when i'll be in Israel and if anyone should want those codes in the future, please let me know.

Great, thanks for the info!

Hopefully this will also be true for the slingbox classic.

good luck my friends and keep us informed about your progress! I intend to have the Romanian channels slinged to Canada... Romania has PAL B/G as Israel and any tip from you would help me . Has any of you ever thought to explore the Scandinavian version ( which, by the way, has almost a double price ...)Also : What do you think about getting the signal from a PC tuner card : would it be possible to control the card if it is not equipped with a remote? A Romanian PC magazine was mentioning about one year ago an imminent launch on the Europen market of the PAL version, but... Suggestion : let's keep posting on this subject and encourage others to do so; those from Sling should react in a way or another at least as a sign of politeness if not more; let's press them in a polite way: both sides will have finally their profit!

Slinging from Romania and watching in Canada. Now waiting for the broken a/c adapter to be replaced by the one that Slingmedia has sent me with no charge. Thank you, Slingmedia!

You can control the PC card by using remote desktop on Windows XP or Vista.  You can get an IP address updater service for free at www.dyndns.org

That way you will always be able to log in to remote desktop.

King you say you got the Classic slingbox, then you got best box Slingmedia every made. (LOL) Hook your Classic up to a Directv Satellite HD receiver and do the same with the Pro, now tell me you can see the difference in the video resolution quality of both boxes. If anybody say they can tell a difference, they lying through their teeth.(LOL) See, with the Slingbox it's what kind of video resolution quality you are getting outside your home base that counts. King you saved a lot of money. Another thing, what is the purpose of the rip-off ding-dongle HD cable on the pro, it does not help placeshift HD TV to my kitchen! (LOL) Plus you got Mycast Orb with all you movies and music anywhere you go...............! (LOL)

Well, I just got my sling-classic here in Israel, and it works great.

This is a US Version Sling that I bought in Best Buy in the US.  So as long as you don't need the tuner, it will work for you.

So from what I have read and learned on my own is that Every USA version of sling except for Sling-Tuner will work in a PAL enviornment.

HI

I  have also bought the pro version sling  in the us.

even it is ntsc so they clamed  , it's working well in my HOT cabel and i even

using the internal tuner( RF )and it's working.........!
