I currently have the Classic version, and I was wondering if this could be done with te Pro.

I want to connect my XM Radio to the slingbox AND be able to control is with a remote on the slingplayer.  My Pioneer XM Radio has an IR remote control, so theoretically it is possible.

Also, from what I have read with the pro, you can connect 4 different devices and select between them.  This would allow me to keep a TV signal, and add the XM Signal.  Am I correct?

You can connect any audio/video device to the Slingbox, but I'm not sure there are any remote control codes built in for XM radios. Maybe someone else out there has tried it. Anyone?

There has been some talk about XM but not much enthusiasm.. Most of the points are that you can listen to XM online without the slingbox in the picture.. It would be cool to have it hooked up to say a sucurity camera input, watch the camera with background music..

Major League Baseball is on XM Satellite radio only.  That's the reason that I want it.

They don't put MLB games on the xm website.

Yes, I can also listen to or watch the games on mlb.com, but mlb.com doesn't work on mobile devices, and sling does.

Still waiting for a stand alone Symbian Slingplayer that isn't tied to the service provider.

I guess this would not be too hard to set up.  The XM radio I have came with a remote control unit so it would be a matter of recording the IR codes and setting it up.  (Not that I'm volunteering to do so as I'm pretty busy at the moment but anyone that has an XM unit should be able to do this).

OK, how do you record the IR codes?  I'd love to be able to do this for my Roku HD-1000 and use the IR blaster with that instead of using the HD-1000's web interface...

Guy, I seriously doubt you can do what you are trying to do. Still their are lots of ways to get XM radio on your mobile devices. I have Xm Satellite radio on my Slingbox via Directv, also I have online XM Satellite Radio on all my mobile devices with or without using the Slingbox. For streaming multimedia content to your mobile devices including Live TV and Radio, Checkout these  websites (http://www.mycast.orb.com) (http://www.mytinytv.com) Another thing, pound for pound as for as video resolution quality (with the right router) guy, you have best Slingbox that was ever made and this is one of the best kept secrets

There must be some way of feeding slingbox new IR codes.  I'd venture they reside in a file somewhere and if I didn't have to shovel out of half a foot of snow right now...  If my Logitech Harmony remote can control the XM radio device then I don't see why we can't get Slingbox to unless they've purposely hidden the IR codes into the guts of the code while I would find hard to believe it not improbable.  Someone from sling could chime in and tell us where the IR codes are kept.

XM on DirecTV does not carry the MLB channels.  At least not on my DirecTV + Tivo.   But I can see a need to at least be able to listen to my favorite team while I'm on the road especially if the game has been blacked out and I can't watch in on my sling and it isn't carried in the city I happen to be travelling in.

Do a search for custom remote.  There are multiple threads about it.  There is also a missing remote request form on Sling's website..

Guy you are right but what about using Mycast Orb with a Tv tuner card on your computer using a IR blaster connected to your IR emitter on your XM Satellite Radio which can be done with Mycast Orb.....................! Where there is a will, there is a way! I guaranteed you, this will work!

February 6, 2007 2:54 PM

I tried ORB so many times in the past.  The problem is that I can NEVER get it to work on Symbian.

I wish Nokia would start using Windows.

February 6, 2007 3:22 PM

(LOL) you have open a can of worms seriously, this issue you are talking about use to make me so mad. The first Tv cell phone I ever owned was a Nokia 6620, Orb compatible, but then I could never get it to work with Orb. Then one day I found  out one of the Greatest Secrets of all Time, concerning why we could not get Orb to work on our Symbian mobile units. We were being Blocked by our carriers from Streaming TV and Audio content on port 554. Their is a way around this, on windows devices Orb use port 80 and on Symbian devices Orb use port 554 for Symbian mobile devices. Your Carrier Blocks port 554. Their is a way around this using registry tweaks on your home computer. I cannot reveal or say all that I want to say, because of legal issues concerning streaming with some carriers. I know how to make that Symbian phone work using Orb. Now don't wish to fast that your Symbian phone had a windows OS, be patient let Slingmedia work the bugs out of the Symbian client, you are going to find out that your Symbian phone has many advantages over your windows counterpart. Believe me you truly open a can of worms..........................! (LOL)

Not all XM channels are carried on the Net or on DirecTV.  There are a LOT of channels that are only authorized for satellite to subscriber use.  Of those are all the MLB channels, the college sports channels, most of the talk radio channels, etc.

So there is a benefit to being able to control an XM radio.

As for IR programming, it is one of the things sorely lacking with the Slingbox.  Now, what the IR receiver on the Pro model is for is anybody's guess, but maybe it will someday be useable to program new codes...

That's why we got Mycast Orb, which make the impossible, possible.......................!

February 6, 2007 5:55 PM

To Kingweb: I know you have  checked out Nokia's N73 this phone comes with the Orb Client application, with this application you can carry your whole media center with you anywhere on the planet, all your movies, music, video and a lot more. Checkout  Mycast Orb! In a lot of ways, Mycast Orb got the Slingox beat! Now this is what I want you to think about, You are the proud owner of the new Nokia N73 and lets say Slingmedia has the Symbian client Perfected, Plus you got Mycast Orb on the same device packing a 240 x 320 265,000 megapixel display Screen. Guy, you are playing the game with a nuclear power device............! I have Mycast Orb own all my mobile devices plus Sling mobile Client, but it's not like having that N73 Device...........................! (LOL)

February 6, 2007 6:52 PM

The Nokia N73 that I have didn't come with any ORB software.  I tried ORB again a few minutes ago and nothing.  I changed the port, and still nothing.

Sling is still better than ORB because it is hardware and not software.  Although ORB if I can ever get it working on a Nokia phone would be great too.

February 6, 2007 8:03 PM

But you do know that Mycast Orb client does come on some versions of the Nokia's N73. Guy if you just change the port number from 554 to something else, this will not solve your problem. You must make registry changes on your home computer. This is were the Key is in your computers registry. Once you get Mycast Orb up and running on your N73 you are going to forget about your Slingox. I want to give you the true FIX, but I'm afraid of legal stuff...............!
