well, this has now gone to the ridiculous side of things.  I've been emailing slingmedia with this problem for weeks now, and received absolutely no positive help whatsoever.
once again, my slingbox was working PERFECTLY with the previous software, and they forced me to "upgrade" to a newer version by expiring the old PERFECTLY WORKING software.  now I have NO PICTURE, and they have offered
me NO FIX.  don't you find this absurd?  what would you suggest I do?
this box doesn't work with a mac anymore. NO VIDEO.  I bought this because they GUARANTEED it would work with macs.
this is one of the more FRUSTRATING things i've gone through in quite a while...mostly because of the lack of communication.  slingmedia hasn't even acknowledged that this is a problem to me.  pretty poor.

Come on somebody needs to help this guy....  Anybody with some pull at Sling?  Put a word for him.  I hate to see this happen.   I don't own a Mac so I can't add my 2 Cents worth.

You've never submitted any questions about your problems before. If you don't post them here, no one in the community can help you out. I find Slings support just as good as any other company's. Try calling them instead of e-mailing them. 1(877)GO-SLING.

Now back to your problem.  Do you have audio on the source? Do you get a working picture on a PC or phone client? What is the source? What kind of Sling Box are you using? Have you tried removing the preferences on your mac for the sling player? Have you tried upgrading firmwares? Is this on a LAN connection or a Remote connection? We need more info to help you out.

I have a mac as well and my Slingplayer has worked out pretty good for me for the last four months.

hi, phil.  i've just joined this community, and have not posted before. the comunications and requests for help have been directed to slingmedia thus far.  thanks for the suggestion to call them directly.  the email route has only had form-type responses.

i do have audio, but no picture.  i haven't tried it on a windows computer.  the source is an hd tivo box (direct tv).  it is a slingbox pro.  i have removed all the preferences and reinstalled the software, and repaired permissions.  i haven't seen an firmwares to upgrade.  are they listed somewhere?  as mentioned previously, it was working flawlessly until my software "expired."  it is on a remote connection.

any help would be greatly appreciated.  i left the country while it was working great, then signed in while on a ski trip in canada, and all i got was sound...pretty frustrating.  i am fairly knowledgable about macs and use them extensively in work (protools) and play (everything else).

best,

have you replugged all cables?

have you completely reset your slingbox to factory settings? Hold down reset button for 20secs..

Have you tried reinstalling slingplayer under a new user on OSX?

have you tried another source..?

Are you using the HD connect cables? Or RCA/S-Video cables? If you're using a HR10-250 Like I am you need to realize that the Tivo box can either output a Standard Def Signal or a HD signal. It can't output two different resolutions at the same time. It sounds to me like you're connecting to a HDTV through a HDMI connection and using a Svideo or RCA connection for the Slingbox.

Try cycling the resolution choices from 1080i/720p to a 480i connection and see if that gives you video. What you really need to do is get a HD Connect cable and do everything through the component (RGB) connections.

hey bounderboy.  thanks, the only one i haven't done is pressed the reset button for 20 seconds.  good idea.  all others, i've tried.

hi phil.   nope.  didn't use any hdmi cables, just the rca's.  don't forget, it worked great until my software "ran out" and had to install that beta 3 version.  that's when things went left.  i hadn't changed anything with the hardware.

Please keep in mind the MAC software is BETA. There are bugs still. I would definately try to call the support team to see if there is anything they can do. Ask them to try to reproduce the problem from their end.

thank you.  i will call them tomorrow, although their email responses seemed to indicate that they have a big problem with this.  their quote, "At this time I would suggest that you go to www.slingcommunity.com and
post the issue in the MAC forum that will allow the developers to take a
look at this and see about getting it resolved. I apologize for this
inconvenience."

it's hard to go anywhere from there.  since it is their own software, and they spend day after day looking for fixes, and nothing has come up for this, it's grim.

perhaps the direct call will help.  thanks

Again, please keep in mind that the MAC software is BETA. This means that support is best-effort until the final release canidate is available. Hopefully you will call and get an agent that is familiar with MACs. Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the software?

hi jake.  yes, i did uninstall and reinstall the software.  actually, i also removed all the plists etc, too.  no luck,

thanks

You don't need to change the hardware to change the signal resolution on a DirecTV receiver. All it takes is to press the up arrow on the remote by accident or pressing the button on the box itself. What resolution are you displaying on the TV? Are you displaying a Standard Def signal? Because you will not be able to display a standard def signal to the RCAs going to the slingbox if you're display an HD signal via an HDMI or Component connection to the TV.

Also, are you using the passthrough? So what you're seeing on your TV is going through the Slingbox first?

What did Sling support say?

Jake

hi.  they said, "I apologize that a fix was not included in the last email, but the only
correction we have for your issue is to go through the Audio Video setup
again.  It is possible the new software did something to the original
video settings, and running the setup again should correct this issue."

this is a copy from their email.  i am not able to go through the audio video setup because it only works on a lan, not remotely.  i'll be back in the country this weekend, and do everyone's suggestions.  this'll probably take care of it.

thanks,

OK. Robbie, calm down first of all. All beta software generally has time bombs in it to prevent old versions from being used when newer versions come out. This is standard practice. Now, if you are having a problem, the FIRST thing you need to do is UNINSTALL your software and delete your preferences. Then reinstall it and go through setup again. It's a pain, but that should correct your problem. I'm one of the beta testers and I can tell you that nothing changed between the previous version and the new version other than the expiry date. If you have your laptop with you, you should be able to do this wherever you are. I think I upgraded a beta release while I was in France...

hi na9d.  that may be true, but i've not been able to change anything with mine, and i've hit every button and tried every setting in the prefs...no luck.

i really think i need to get back to LA (this sat) and try the suggestions everyone's put out there.

The new BETA broke the functionality on my home computer AND work computer. All I did was reinstall the new version over the old one. Here's the error message I'm getting: "The connection attempt failed. Make sure the Slingbox you are trying to watch is set up for remote viewing and not blocked by firewall/NAT settings." Any help?

February 17, 2007 3:40 PM

Again, THERE IS NOTHING NEW ABOUT THE LATEST BETA. It simply has a different expiration time bomb. Do what you would do to ANY program that gives you problems: Uninstall it and delete the preferences. Then reinstall. Use the uninstall script that comes with the DMG file.

NA9D: I disagree. There ABSOLUTELY IS something wrong with the new software if it breaks your functionality. I've never EVER had problems updating software until the latest SlingPlayer Beta came along.

The task of uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting preferences, then reentering preferences is far too laborious to ask of users. IMO of course.
