My friend in japan is trying to setup his slingbox at home.

In spite of all his efforts, the slingbox doesn't appear in the directory.

I got him a BEFSR41C-JP V3 linksys router to connect to his dsl modem.

I even got him to disable his firewalls to ease the setup process.

I'm out of ideas and obviously won't fly to Japan to do the setup.

Maybe du to the router presence, msn remote assistance won't work. Even pictures don't pass through anymore.

That router his supposed to be uPnP compliant.

I'm getting desperate at this point with n o way to assist my friend.

Any help apreciated.

Is the Slingbox connected directly to the router and is the computer trying to access the slingbox for setup connected directly to the router and are the two green lights on front of slingbox flashing or permanently on?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, the Slingbox is connected directly to the router. He tried 2 different inputs from the 4 available. The fourth one being reserved for DMZ i think. (he tried this one as well).

The computer is also connected directly to the router. My friend still has internet connectivity, so i guess he installed his new router to his modem correctly. (through the WAN port as i told him to).

According two him, both green leds are on. He didn't tell me if they were flashing.

What would the flashing mean ?

Also, what would happen if one mikstakenly hooked his Slingbox using a crossed Ethernet cable instead of the straight one provided ?

I'm asking because this because i was thinking he could have taken the wrong one from the router box (not even sure they provided a crossed RJ45 cable in the box, but i'm trying to think of all the possibilities).

If both gree LEDs are on chances are that the Sling is connectred to the LAN OK, don't need toworry about the X cable.

What happens if he tries to "ping" the default Slingbox address?

If that router allows you to run diagnostics on it, what is the output of "arp -a"?
