after 1 week running fine, my slingbox, stops working today in the morning, and don't let me connect, i go via vnc to my LAN at home in Colombia, i'm at USA, after a few minutes stops, then i asked my son to reboot everything in the network, and SB runs fine again, later stops and when tried to connect get Error: 0x8007274C, weird, because i didn't make changes to the network, tonight i run the setup wizard, and get the SB up and running without problems, but after a while audio stops working, video goes fine, but no audio, my son disconnect, and reconnect and works again, after 3 hours, audio stops was more and more, so i change from audio stereo to audio mono, and then runs fine for 15 minutes, and suddenly SB stops working, lights on SB are green, router show SB in 191.168.1.101, i try to ping without luck, tried to ping 192.168.1.237 and neither, i haven't changed nothing in router from the day SB was setup 1 week ago, any idea what's happening?, thanks

When I had that problem originally, my power supply died about 2 days later.  Unfortunately since replacing the power supply, the audio problem persists.  I believe th failing power supply may have damaged something in the hardware (in my case anyway).

I have had the random audio dropouts (3 hours to 3 second intervals, lasts until I reconnect, switch from stereo to mono or go to audio only and back).  I have had the problem with all of these sling clients:

1.4.206 on Windows XP and Windows 2000

1.02.145 (beta) OSX

Latest Windows SmartPhone Release

Latest PocketPC release

I have had the problem with both the 1.0.96 firmware and the previous version. On the local netwok and remotely.

Audio wll run forever in audio only mode, it is just the combination of video and audio together I have had problems with since replacing my adapter.  You can start by calling sling and requesting a new power adapter, yours may be salvagable.  I believe my box which is out of warranty (I bought it the first day they were in retail) is now essentially worthless to me.

I love my sling boxes, they are one of those rare finds that really exceeds your expectations from day 1.  I would have expected a usefull life of closer to 5 years than the um (I guess close to 3) I got out of it, but no one seems to build anything to last any more.  Since the AVs have a very similar power supply ( I would need to read the label to tell if they were identical, I do not remember off-hand), I am concerned this did not get through in the lessons learned department.

Matt thanks for your answer, i forget to say that i have connected the cable box to SB via coaxial, because is analog cable, so there is no way to push firmly the audio conector, and the video looks fine, about the power supply, can i bought a similar at radio shack?, did you get the same disconnect problems?,

I remember in the week SB works fine, sometimes i get the black screen with "no audio and video signal please check your connectios",  i just disconnect and connect again, and runs without problems, but days later start the problem i mentioned before

thanks again

I am having the same problem after running seamlessly for months. I think it is on the company's end...

Some tips from A Colombian/Canadian user with 6 units installed (4 in Colombia, one in the US, and One in Canada).

Cable is more stable and generates less conflicts than ADSL for the slingbox

For ADSl,avoid Modem/router combinations (like the D-Link DSL 500B), a dedicated modem is the way to go(but I prefer Cable for the slingbox).

remove internet content supervission software (children and teens) like Net Nanny, live one care (or similar), because they block the sling player.

have at least 1 Meg broadband (around 484Kbps streaming). With 2 Megs I have streaming of about 900Kbps(great for sports). This means 1 or two megs in the originating country (Colombia in this case).

Wired routers are more stable. Use the sling link accesory to set up a LAN (via AC), it's safer and less conflicting. The D-Link DI-604 wired router has worked fine with me

Avoid the Linksys routers (they generate conflictinc dynamic IP adresses that block your slingplayer from time to time). Netgear is very stable.

If you have a Modem/router combination, it means you have two routers and you will have to choose the bridge option on the Modem/Router that you have directly connected to cable. The problem is the Dynamic IPs, you can use the setup wizard and think you're good to go, but every time you use your software you may be randomly assigned a new IP address and you will not be able to connect.

Conclussion:

Cable better than ADSL

2 megs would be great

wired router with slinglink if necessary

Hope this solves your problem.

feel free to ask me any questions (english, spanish or french) at cmsexto@hotmail.com
