I am abroad (in Italy) for a year and just purchased a Slingbox PRO on my last trip to the US (end of Feb). I had little trouble getting it installed, configured and running. It is a beautiful piece of technology when it works, but I'm having some serious technical difficulties.

After any period of time that I view the Slingbox through Slingplayer, it appears that the (Linksys WRT54G) router is locking up. The symptom is that I will no longer be able to connect through 8080 (Router for Remote Admin) or connect through 443 (SlingPlayer to the Slingbox). I am only able to resolve this connection issue by having a neighbor physically power-cycle the router and DSL Modem. I believe only the router needs cycling, but I am trying to keep it simple for them.

The period of time connected to the Slingbox for this to happen does not seem to be consistent. It is ususally hours, and everything is fine until the connection goes away. Ocassionally, I will shutdown the Slingplayer with the connection still good, but won't be able to connect the next time I run the SlingPlayer. I have attempted to try and modify the Slingplayer settings to be as "lightweight" as possible, but to no avail. When the Slingplayer/Slingbox are working, everything is great. When the connection is down ... not so great.

I believe the problem is in the router, but do not understand why this only occurs after viewing Slingbox. Slingmedia claims the Slingbox is interoperable with the Linksys WRT54G, so I would expect that they would be aware of any issues. I have seen this type of issue all over the internet, but no resolution of the root cause.

I have verified that when the connection is down, the entire network (DSL Modem, Router, PC, Slingbox) are all up at home. I have not been able to verify if I have LAN connectivity when the incoming WAN seems to be blocked.

The pertinent system config is in my bio. I could add that I am not doing anything else on the US LAN/WAN ... even disabled wireless. The only thing hooked up is my home PC and the Slingbox. The home PC is pretty much dormant. My Linksys router is set to keep 1 hostname at DynDns.org in synch, and this seems to be working fairly well.

I'm looking for help in resolving this issue, as I am having to do it remotely for the time being and not making much headway. Any input would be greatly appreciated ... I'm working on workarounds, and one of those is to return the Slingbox to SlingMedia ... which I don't want to have to do.

I had this same problem and doing a factory reset with the button on the back of my Slingbox Pro did help alleviate most of the 727c errors  This was the solution offered by Sling tech support.

I also hooked up a $6 timer to the slingbox so that it powers down for 15 minutes each morning and then comes back up.  No one has to remember to power cycle it.   Basically a good way to reset it if it gives the 727c error and there is no one around to help you get it going again.

The box does seem to hang when the connection slows way down or you try and switch video inputs during a very slow connection.  If the connection does slow to a crawl then don't swith video inputs at that time.  Close the slingplayer and start it again and wait until it has a good speed connection before changing any options like video input.

I don't reboot my router or modem...just the slingbox.

Thanks for the quick response. You've go to be kidding ... I have an office in Allen, live in McKinney. Currently on assignment in Florence ... small world.

I considered a cheap timer (I'll be back in early April), but am not satisfied with this as anything more than a sub-standard work-around. Slingmedia should provide a solution that is reliable. If they are not able to work with certain routers or there are other issues, they must resolve this.

Another workaround I was(/am) looking at is a Remote Power Switch. It costs $125, but you get instant power-cycle results by issuing commands through a phoneline. It's pricier, but you get a quicker response.  Again, doesn't fix the problem.

I want to know why Sling thinks the factory reset addresses the 727c errors. This indicates to me that they may realize they are causing the problem(s) on the router ...

Bump ... I know others are facing this issue.

Does Sling monitor these boards?

I seem to be having the same exact problem.

Just got the classic sling and my buddy in Japan is noticing that he can connect one day and not the next. I've gone in circles thinking it was my router, but when I check the settings for port-forwarding, etc, nothing's changed. I really don't think that resetting the SlingBox each time this happens should be "the fix" solution here....

I will keep scouring the forums, though, to see if there really is a real way to fix this.

In the meantime: HELP!!! :)

I'm having these intermittent problems as well.  I get the 0x8007274C errors every so often.  I travel constantly and I can't trust my neighbors with a key to my place.

Can someone post a link or explain what the $6 timer is?  Is it basically a cheap surge protector that you can set to turn off automatically?

Do any of you happen to have a "Block anonymous WAN Request" option turned on, on your Linksys WRT54G router. This could cause the symptom that you are describing, working today, not tomorrow.

I think its found under the security tab of the router. Because the Slingbox and Finder Server need to sync up to update your current WAN IP address in order for the Finder-ID to work this could be having a hick-up causing a power-cycle to resolve.

I could be totally wrong but seems too wired and a power-off timer should not have to be the solution. I have had a Slingbox Classic since they came out and I have never had any issues with loss of connection, needing a powercycle issues. (knocking on wood).

Sling On!!
