I've been experiencing tons of crashes with version 1.0.2.145 (currently latest) SlingPlayer on OS X 10.4.9, it used to work as recently as 2 days ago, but now the program just quits when connecting to my SB AV. 100% failure, all the time.

Sometimes I see it, albeit very briefly, say "connected" before it unexpectedly quits. Most of the time it gets to "connecting" and quits.

Program is running(?) on a G4 Powerbook 17".

I called Sling's support yesterday, and got a very friendly tech support person (kudos) who, in a very friendly manner, told me that there was no troubleshooting advice he could offer me for the Mac client (boo). He also suggested that I check here... so far, no dice. Here's the kicker... I can run SlingPlayer on my iMac 880 MHz G4 at home (same system software version) just fine (verified by remote access yesterday as I was on the phone with Sling).

I have rebuilt permissions, purged old logs (via Onyx), uninstalled and reinstalled SlingPlayer, installed in a 'fresh' user account, and pretty much anything else I could think of -- all to no avail.

If someone at Sling actually reads this forum, please help -- or at least reply. I feel very much left out in the cold.

TIA for trying to help.

Have you tried removing the .pref files from your computer?

Yes. (that's part of the uninstall / reinstall procedure). I've also tried just manually deleting the prefs. No joy.

Hmmm... Sounds like your Slingbox is OK and your iMac is OK, so I wonder what changed a few days ago on your Powerbook? Have you tried using your Powerbook from a different location? (As in: Is it possible a firewall or network issue is preventing your PB from connecting? Rather than some sort of hardware or software issue...)

Please feel free to follow-up with macfeedback@slingmedia.com.

Reinstall like everyone else has said.. I have yet to have slingplayer crash on my powerbook g4...

I'm in a different hotel now, and it's connecting now, with no crashes so far.

I run my SlingBox on port 8080 -- so it should be open and accessible from most networks that allow access to the internet for web browsing...

I can understand network conditions may prevent it from connecting... but a total crash as a result is not good.. I'd much rather see an error dialog.

So, it's working for now... I hope that SlingMedia is actively working on improving the client and things will get steadily better.

Thanks

Been using it for a month now on my mac(2-3 hours day)... I have never had a crash yet... Try a reinstall you may have a corrupt file.

I have a g4 powerbook and loaded the latest player this morning.  It worked perfectly for awhile then I shut it down to do some other things on my computer (web surfing).  A little later, I tried to launch sling player and it just crashes every time.  after 3 tries, it takes me to the select sling player screen, I type in the password and press watch and it immediately crashes.  I looked at the earlier posts about this, but they were from a year ago and a different version of slingplayer for mac.  I was on the phone with tech support and he said my isp was blocking port 5001????? That would tell me I cannot connect, but crash the application?  any ideas?

thanks

The layout of the files has not changed at all in any of the versions of the sling software. Follow the directions and you should be ok. Remove all the .pref files.
