Hi!

I am a newbie so pardon my question:

My internet DSL speed is to slow (128kbps) that I am not thinking of using the Slingbox to view my cable-TV via the internet.

However, can I still use it to view my cable-TV programs in my laptop if I have a wireless network at home?  That is, if I have a wireless router (802.11 b/g) at home, can I connect it to Slingbox so that I can view my cable-TV programs anywhere around the home in my laptop via Wifi?

How is the performance? Will it still be acceptable?  Do I need Slingbox PRO for this or could I simply use the AV or Tuner model?

Thanks.

The performance will depend on your wireless networks -- but even a typical B network is plenty of bandwidth for a great picture on your laptop.

As to the model your looking for.. be it turner, a/v or pro -- that would really depend on what you want to do, and how you get your current cable tv. Do you have set top box that decodes the signal - or can you plug the cable from the wall into any cable ready tv and get all your channels.

Ie if your using digital cable you would most likely need a set top box to decode your cable.. This would rule out the tuner version of slingbox, but either the a/v or pro version could be used then.

Do you want to also be able to sling the output of a dvr or vhs, etc.. then that would rule out the tuner model as well.

But if your just on basic analog cable 125 channels, etc.. than the tuner version would be what your looking for.

Happy Slinging!

I was just wondering the same thing.  I just need it to watch TV in other rooms of the house that has a computer.  This home does not have internet access since I use my data service on my phone for internet on my Macbook Pro.  I appreciate the advise and help.
