For remote viewing, I can not use this laptop while any other PC can get access to my slingbox without any problem.

It seems the current set up of this laptop prevents me from getting access to the SlingBox from a remote location

I can use this same laptop to watch tv through the clingbox if I am stay at home

Please help to let me know what it is that causing such problem

Thanks,

Plano, please don't crosspost..

You're saying you can view remotely from other computers, just not this particular laptop?  Have you tried this laptop from multiple locations or just work?

Sorry for crossposting.

Yes, I tried this same laptop from a different locations and with different ISP.

As an example, if I come to your house...unpug the ethenet cable from your pc and plug to this laptop, I can see everything from the net...but will not be able to getaccess to slingbox.

Plug the able back to your pc, you will be able to see my box

Thanks,

Sounds like a firewall issue. When you're at home the laptop doesn't have to go out to the internet and back so it can connect. When it has to go to the internet and look for the slingbox it can't connect to it.. Check firewalls or Norton Security, etc..

... or, if you are using a router, you have a very effective hardware firewall. So don't forget to check your router settings - especially as they handle inbound port requests.

thanks gentlemen for your help in this regards. I truts something in the area of firewall / security being set up in my laptop...since it is from work, I doubt that I will have any luck to get pass it :-( As far as for the router setting .... sling tech was there with me and we went through the router set up and found nothing that might be the cause... I will though probably contact Verizon and see if they can help as they are the ISP provider for my FIOS

The fact that it works from other computer means there's nothing wrong at home. You might try a different port. Look around here some. I know some people use 443..

Ryandh.... at work, the IS/IT guy told me that port 3389 is opened for "remote access"...I tried to configure this port for thr port fowarding set up instead of 5001 though without any success ...not sure if I need to change the registry set up as well (?) ..that what I recall the guy was saying ...

Make sure the direct connect option is NOT checked. Also make sure the SP software does not have the proxy option checked.
