Does anyone know whether it is possible to remotely reboot a SlingBox?

I don't think so.  Would be nice...

Slinging with a Slingbox Pro, a Slingbox Solo and a Slingbox Classic. 3 Replay TV units, a Roku HD1000 Photobridge and a Roku M2000 Soundbridge, an AppleTV, a Vudu, and digital cable. www.na9d.net

Actually there is a way to do it with X10.  You could buy their firecracker kit

http://www.x10.com/automation/firecracker.htm

(Probably cheaper on ebay)

Hook the slingbox up to the Transceiver module and plug the firecracker into your home computer which you leave on and connected to the internet

Use a free logmein.com acount to remotely access your desktop and run the firecracker software.  Then turn the slingbox off and back on.

Ya, that's how I'm rebooting my two slings.  They're both plugged into an X10 appliance module, which I can remotely turn off/on through my HAI Omni home automation/security system.

I use the X10 firecracker to power on/off my slingbox and other HT components. I do it to save power though. Cuts my phantom load by 40W. The only HT project I've ever done that will actually pay for itself.

What would be the need to reboot your sling box remotely??

My slingbox locks up while I'm on the road.    When this happens I can no longer connect.  When I get home, I see the "connected" light is on.   Rebooting fixes the problem.  I don't know if the sling gets confused if the interenet connection becomes unstable or something else.

To deal with the problem, I purchased a digital timer from Ace.  You can program 14 events per day.  When I go on the road I have the timer set to turn off at the top of the hour and back on one minute later.  Now if it locks up I only have to wait an hour or two to regain access.  Not exactly a high tech solution but it works.

Cause slings can hang. I use another device which has remote rebooting available...

Slings do sometimes need rebooting

I use something called Iboot.  Not cheap and it either needs port forwarding or a vpn into your home network

Wow.  Seems like a rather ingenious "non-high-tech" idea.  Have you actually had this fix a lockup yet when you've been on the road?  I travel a lot, which is why I recently got Slingbox but it's locked up a couple of times and that is so frustrating.  It's why I'm on this forum at the damn moment!
