It seems that its possible to install a fully working Mac OS X on the Apple TV:

Would it make any sense to try to install the Mac slingplayer ona a Apple TV (until the Slingcatcher comes along), or is the Apple TV too underpowered to do the job?

best regards

Lars

Successfully running current Slingplayer on my Apple TV. I wanted Slingplayer and USB keyboard/mouse support only so the steps were pretty simple with the only complication at all being the need to file transfer the Slingplayer app and preferences from my Mac. Just watched the Celts finish off the Bulls live from my LA apartment. I still have the following issues.... but it works!!!

1- Optical audio does not work....but the RCA jack audio is fine.
2- Slingplayer crashes if I click on the video itself, no idea why. Just confine myself to keyboard commands for now.

hints: When you open NitoTV do not replace H.264 codec or you may not be able to view your iTunes library.

Well, I was able get slingplayer up and running perfectly on my apple TV. Looking for a way to control it without the keyboard. I as able to install snatch server and was able to control Slingplayer on my Apple TV with my iPhone. However, it killed the audio in Slingplayer.Any suggestions?

Try going on the ATV to Settings > Audio & Video > Dolby Digital Out and set it to off that fixed the problem for me.

Hope it works

Well, this is odd. Slingplayer and Snatch server work perfectly on my Living room TV, but the Audio from Slingplayer does not work on my Bedroom TV. Both hooked up Via HDMI. other audio from the Apple TV works fine, just not Slingplayer...any ideas? The Dobly Digital out setting didn't change it.

Hi Dai Vernon,

Could you give some hints or how-to on installing Snatch-server in the AppleTV. It looks like a nice solution to quit the mouse I'm using right now...

Thanks in advance

Sure, here is the quick and dirty. I'm still playing with it so it isn't perfect but it works. If people want, I will post  a complete how to on my blog when I have more info.http://aaronisaacs.wordpress.com/

I downloaded the Tiger version of Snatch server from their website and installed it to a thumb drive (I was using an Mac running Tiger that I have access to) I copied it and it's plist file the same as I did Slingplayer App to the Apple TV. Once you do that and reboot, it shows up in the same spot as slingplayer app on Apple TV. The plist doesn't seem to work, so I had to set it up again, but that was easy with a mouse and keyboard attached. If all you see is the Apple logo after launch, press "command ," and the preferences will show up.

I created a basic Slingplayer remote to use with my Mac Mini and use it to control Slingplayer on the ATV as well.
