You are using two different subnetworks. the x.x.1.x network and the x.x.0.x. You need to use just one DHCP server. Next time enter in all your IP addresses in your local network. There is no way we can hack into those addresses. Keep your ISP address secret though. That is specific to you.
...from yet another Slingbox newbie. Yesterday I bought a Slingbox for connecting to my Sky+ satellite digital recorder here in the UK. So far I have managed to view content via my MacBook and PowerBook G4 on the home network. However I have had no joy with enabling Remote Viewing. This is my setup and what I have tried: 1. SB connected to Sky+ box 2. SB networked (IP x.x.1.11) via wired connection to Netgear HDX-101 Powerline network adapter 3. Netgear HDX-101 connected to 10/100 network switch 4. Network switch connected to Actiontec GT701-WG ADSL router (IP x.x.0.138) 5. Airport Extreme (snow 'UFO', IP x.x.1.1) provides wireless from Actiontec 6. 2xAirport Express (IP x.x.1.232/233), extends wireless connection 7. MB and PBG4 connects wirelessly via Airport 8. Port forwarding manually set up (with a static IP) on the Actiontec as per instructions from portforward.com (ie. 5001/TCP/x.x.1.11) 9. Slingbox Setup Assistant always errors saying it cannot be connected to the internet 10. canyouseeme.org does not see 5001 at my ISP-allocated external IP address I have not tried to open port 5001 on the Actiontec router's firewall (could this be the problem) - because it does not seem to provide any option to do this. All it provides are Basic, Low, Medium or High settings and no options to see/change anything else as it says it provides security through NAT (which is on). Am I missing something very simple or am I way off course? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the quick response Phil. I have been told that using the two different network ranges is correct for my setup. "If you are thinking that perhaps the Actiontec router's IP should be 10.0.1.138 to agree with the 10.0.1.x subnet on the LAN side of your AEBS(g), the answer is no. Theses are two separate private network segments, 10.0.0.x on the network between the Actiontec and the AEBS WAN port and 10.0.1.x on the AEBS(g) LAN and wireless side. They must be different because of the intervening router."
Thats one complicated network... Did everyone on the block pitch in and buy 1 internet connection and split it off??? Ok so what you need to do is get everything running on the same network... Like Phil Pham said.. Right now I have 2 routers connected using a power-line adapter like you have I could have diffrent network such as 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 but things woudlnt work out.. I personally would redo your network for scratch... DSL> Router 1 (turn DHCP on) 192.168.1.1 -- Connect power line adapter to router 1, connect airport to router 1. turn DHCP off on the airport and make it an access point. On the airport make the IP 192.168.1.200. Regardless if you are connecting your DSL to the 10/100 switch then connecting your powerline adapter to the 10/100 switch >>>> accross the house to the slingbox it should work fine since the powerline adapter will be running on the same network address as the 10/100 switch. On second thought I dont think you can program the airport to act like an access point... Go buy a linksys router and install some DDWRT firmware on it...
If you need more help post this under PC or some other category so it gets more views... This is not a mac issue its your network issue.. Again personally I would throw away everything but the powerline adapter and start over..
Well, I spent several hours on the phone with tech support and they were very patient and helpful. In the process of testing everything, we eventually agreed that my network setup was fine and correct. At their suggestion I had even disabled all the extra elements of the network and ran the Slingbox directly into the back of the router but still without success. In the end the problem was narrowed down to a firewall issue on my Actiontec router. Changing the firewall setting to the minimum permissable, 'Basic', fixed everything and Remote Viewing is now working fine on my "complicated network". Thankfully no need to start from "scratch" or buy any additional hardware/software.
