SlingPlayer streams video from my Slingbox, stores my favorite channels, and even has some remotes that look just like the ones I have at home, but it doesn't do everything.

If you could only get one new feature to improve your SlingPlayer, what would it be? What would you want this feature to do?

Easy, allow integration with another media player. I, for example, would love it if it was one of the extensions for J.River Media Center - http://www.jrmediacenter.com/.

Multiple remotes available per input/on the fly switching. Being able to switch a device on an input without rerunning setup.

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

The most important function for me is for the slingplayer to be friendly for people using a physical remote control.  I travel a lot and hook my laptop up to the TV in the hotel and use a real remote.   I'm currently using an old slingplayer 1.3 because of the way full screen operates and because there are more keyboard shortcuts for the SA8300HD remote.  I use these keyboard shortcuts to map to the physical remote I travel with.

Idealy, I would like to see custimizable keyboard maping to any remote button (since many buttons on many remotes dont have a shortcut), and true full screen with no bars sliding in at anytime no mater what I do, except alt-enter or double click to exit the mode.  In this mode I would still like to be able to use all the shortcuts to pull up menu items.  For example, alt-b currently pulls up the slingbox menu and should still work in full screen.

I'd like to see them drop the remote scheme they have now and go to something similar to HTML image maps to make it easy for people to create their own remotes. Have the IR codes database defined, allow users to create their own remotes with their own images and button maps, mapped to codes.

Agree with MegaZone... I bought a particular DVR that was listed as "supported"... but the support feel far short. I spent about 2 weeks fulltime  hacking and creating a remote with proper support for the DVR features and layout.

A Singbox supporting concurrent connections from multiple slingplayers.

Make it less intrusive to my normal workflow on other programs.

Especially, automatically disappear on SP mouseover and reappear when I move the mouse away from that area of the screen. We could still have easy access to the SP window by giving the window a small "handle" that does not disappear. With this handle we could right click to get options or it could have a control panel to slide out from it. In that spirit, global hotkey support too (but I like the handle idea better because I can do everything with the mouse).

I get tired of constantly needing to move the SP window out of the way to access a scrollbar or status bar.

I would like to see the ability to record programs onto your computer so you can watch them later without having internet access.

I'm torn between two wants:

1. Multiple remotes per input and being able to switch on the fly. That way I can use modulated UHF inputs from a variety of devices on the tuner input of my classic or pro, and be able to switch remotes based on what device I am actually watching at the moment.

2. Recording the stream on my pc, and being able to play it back using standard software. i.e., the recording produces a wmf or avi or some such common type file.

My vote would be to allow recording to mpeg4/xvid/divx so that you can also use SlingPlayer as "SlingDVR".

As far as the "create your own remote" mentioned earlier that would be fine for some but if that feature was added they should continue to offer the branded remotes to match the equipment like they do today.

I think the most asked for feature in the past was #1 -multiple remotes, #2 -multiple players on one machine and #3 -multiple watchers on one box.

The way the box is setup I doubt #1 will ever happen, #2 and #3 could be done easily.  In fact, I have only heard, cause I don't have one, I think the Mac does #2 already.

I personally vote for #3

When viewing channel guides, it would be nice if the volume buttons were assignable to PageUP and PageDOWN.

I'd like to connect  security surveillance camera to Sling box. This would  enable us to monitor home or business from anywhere.

Absolutely no question about it -- the ability to record programs in a common format for playback when I'm awake.

I got Sling because while I have a home and Dish network in Illinois, I live most of the year in Southern Spain, and I wanted to follow the White Sox.  But because of the 7 hour time difference, night games are usually impossible to stay awake for.  How lovely it would be to be able to record them and view them in the morning via the Pinnacle Showcenter on my TV.  Alas, not possible.

Closed caption option. Why?

People who can't hear (i'm surprised Slingmedia hasn't been challenged yet by someone screaming: ADA (http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/statutes/....

People who need the sound muted, work enviroment.

This would only work for slingboxes with tuners since STB and DVR's handle CC, although most STBs do a poor job in this area anyhow.

the ability to reset Slingbox remotely... when we travel & it needs resetting, there is no one at home to reset it, so we're out of luck until we get home.

Firewall sat work suck! AAAAGGGGGGHH! I think Slingmedia could boost profits by inventing as system that allows you to login to Slingmedia.com and have total control of your player. Most corporate and government sytems don't allow you to install software, let alone control ports for streaming. Would it be cool if Slingmedia took care of that for you.

April 27, 2007 11:14 PM

I also like the CC idea, but I would really like a J2ME SlingPlayer for my non-WM phone.

April 27, 2007 11:35 PM

-the ability to reset Slingbox remotely

-same remote codes as in UK, especially most used sat receivers in EU like Dreambox

April 28, 2007 12:11 AM

I would like to see channel listings for cable not hooked up to a stb.
