The Panasonic DMR-E85H has a few buttons that are not mapped to the buttons on the Slingbox remote.  I have discovered that some of the DMR-E85H buttons have been enabled in the “Custom” menu section of the Remote Control Menus:

  Custom 01 =  ?

Custom 02 = "Blue" (Dubbing) Button

Custom 03 = "Green" (Chapter) Button

  Custom 04 = Status Button

Custom 10 = HDD Select Button

Custom 11 = DVD Select Button

  Custom 14 = ?

  Custom 15 = Display Button

Custom 16 = Time Slip Button

  Custom 18 = ?

  Custom 19 = Erase Button

Additionally, from the "Menu" Menu

    Menu = Sub Menu Button

and from the "Misc" Menu

    Input = Functions Button

For the buttons that are useful (like "Blue" and "Green"), you can use the "add favorites" feature of the Sling Player to make these options more convenient to use.

If anyone determines the function of Custom 01, 14, and 18 for DMR-E85H, please let me know!

Wow, Thanks for the POST!

I was considering getting the  Slingbox PRO

however, I wasn't 100% sure that it would work

with my Panasonic DMR-E85H. According to your

recent post, it will work, yet it's not listed as one

of the remote controllable devices on the website:

http://us.slingmedia.com/object/KB-00...

Could you please let me know if there's anything

special that needs to be done in order to control

a Panasonic DMR-E85H? I would sincerely

appreciate your help SlingMan2007!

Travelz -  I'm glad to hear that my post was helpful.

Basically, during the SlingBox setup process, you select from a list of Panasonic DVRs.  The DMR-E85H is one of them.  (I don't think that the list on the SlingMedia website is up to date).  Like you, I was a bit hesitant to purchase the SlingBox, since the DMR-E85H was not listed, but was pleased to find it as one of the selections during the set up process.

Probably the most critical part of the SlingBox setup is the positioning of the IR Blasters (these send the remote control commands from the SlingBox to the DVR).  On the DMR-E85H, the 'sweet spot' for the remote control is on the right side of the box.  I ended up taping the IR Blasters to the right side of the cabinet about 2-3 inches front of the DVR.

Once setup, the SlingBox does a good job controlling the DMR-E85H.  However, in order to access advanced features of the DMR-E85H, you need to follow the notes in the first post.

I appreciate your prompt response.

The Slingbox would be much less useful without

having the ability to control my Panasonic

DMR-E85H.

I will keep your post for reference of

the functions of the "Custom" buttons and such.

This information is extremely usefulful.

Thanks again for your help Slingman 2007!

Hello  SlingMan2007,

I tried the new Slingplayer and yes, it does have the DMR-E85H

just as you said however, there does NOT seem to be any way to

hit the "INPUT" button for that remote. I use the input feature on

the Panasonic for security cameras. I have contacted Sling's tech

support line and they gave me a link for requesting this button

ability to be added for the next release.

I was just wondering if you had found a way to change inputs

on the DMR-E85H with the new slingplayer although, I don't see

anything in your original post.

Thanks again!

Hi Travelz -  I believe that the 'input' button on the DMR-E85H selects L1, L2, or L3 (Line input #1, 2 or 3).  Using the SlingBox remote, change the channel to 02 and then hit the down button.  'L3' should now be displayed.  Hit the down button again for 'L2' and again for 'L1' and again for the highest channel programmed.

If you want to record the input on L1, L2 or L3, go to the TV guide, select "Schedule" from the top menu, click the down button once.  Click the Green Button to "Set Timer". Set the Date, Start time, End time.  When on the channel field, press the Blue Button ("Input") to  change between L1, L2, L3 and cable.

Hope this helps.

Once again you have provided the information that I was

looking for.  It works just as you said even though I was expecting

a seperate "input" button. I just today purchased the slingbox PRO

after being quite happy with the original slingbox. This product is

worth buying again for me. Of course I love my E85H as well.

Together, they are quite a combination.

                                                        Thanks again SlingMan2007!

Travelz - You're welcome.  Glad I was able to help.

Can the classic slingbox also control a Panasonic DMR-E85H? I would like to control for the timer recording.

Thank you. mas4989

Yes but you will need a newer version of the sling player.

   http://us.slingmedia.com/object/KB-00...

Then follow Threads #3 and Thread#1 above.

The "Input" (Under Remote , Misc , Input ) will

get you into the Functions of the E85H where you

can set and edit timer recordings. I tested it and it

does work.

Did you find the "timer recording" button somewhere to? I have a DMR-E95H which must be very similar, I just can't find that button... Thanks, Erik.

There is no "timer recording" button on my remote for the DMR-E85H. I need to use the "Functions" button in order to arrow down to the "timer recording" feature. According to the first post from Slingman2007,

      Input = Functions Button

...then use the arrow, number, and select  to program a timer recording.  You can find "Input" under the words "Remote" and "Misc". I hope that this post helps you.

The "timer" button from the manual is called "Rec Mode" on the hardware remote

Which button whould button should this be on the Sling remote?

with this button the DVR goes into timer recording mode as per scheduled recordings, else it will not do any from the programmed list...

Erik.

Hi Erik -

"Rec Mode" only changes the quality of the recording (XP, SP, LP or EP).  When pressing this button on the actual remote, the front panel display of the DMR-E85H changes (nothing changes on the screen). I have not found anything in the Sling Box Remote control menus that has this functionality (even if it did, you can not see the front panel display remotely, so how would you know it worked?)

If you just want to quickly start recording a program that you are currently watching for a set number of mintues (30, 60, etc.), just press the record button (from the main section of the sling box remote) a few times:  The first time you press the record button, it will start recording until you stop it.  The second time you press the record button, it will record for 30 minutes.  The third time you press the record button, it will record for 60 minutes.  After each button press, a window is displayed showing how long the recording will be.

If you want to set a program to record on a specific date / time, then either use the TV Guide programming feature, or manually set the start date / time / channel / quality.   In order to do this on the sling box, it is a just a matter of mapping the buttons on the sling player as described in the earlier posts.  For example, I mapped the blue / green / HDD / DVD / Time Slip / Sub Menu functions to the bottom of the sling player to make it easier to use (see image).

I hope this answers your question.

My DVR is a DMR-E95H. I can program timed recordings but thereafter the DVR needs to be put in "timer recording mode" in order to execute the programmed list of timer recordings.

It is this button I am looking for. Is it the "Prog/Check" button then? and if so, then why does my model not respond to the button. Would you know what code it should be? then I will check in RM and re-cook the bin file.

Erik.

I have a EH65 and EU slingbox, but can't see any Pana recorder listed in DVD recorder list. How did you find yours?
