Yes, you can use the current firmware version with the older - non-encrypted - Slingplayer software and it is compatible with At-Large.
I have classic slingbox. It came with firmware 1.0.89. It works with old slingplayer version 1.2 which I plan to keep on one PC for using at large recorder. On another I use version 1.3. Now version 1.4 is out but when I tried to install it I get message that a firmware upgrade is required. I am nervous about updating firmware since don't know if it will support uncoded streams and use of version 1.2 software and at large recorder. Is anyone using most recent firmware and at large recoder
I thought all the other threads said the firmware doesn't matter, just the version of player??
Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.
so did you try to use version 1.2 software after upgrading to the latest firmware or were you using the new version 1.4 software? I would assume that 1.4 would not work with atlarge since version 1.3 won't. what is the latest firmware version? I know version 1.2 software works with 1.0.89 firmware and at large recorder.
do you know that you can reset firmware to factory settings by pushing the reset buttom. that is what sling told me before. but I don't know how to upgrade to a firmware other than the latest. is there somewhere to get all the upgrades and you can select/install which one you like?

One or the other has to be pre-encrypted. In other words.
New player - Old Firmware
Old Player - New firmware.
That is at this time anyway.
I personally use my own stuff and run old player and new firmware, when I want to record.
If you like the Sling Community and have a Sansa player then check out the Sansa Community!
Which versions of player and firmware are "old" and which are "new"?
You say new player-old firmware BUT when I tried to load the most recent player (1.4) it said I must upgrade firmware so I couldn't use new player-old firmware?
and when I use version 1.3 software with 1.0.89 firmware-I can't use at large recorder but can use it with 1.2 software and 1.0.89 firmware so is 1.2 or older software considered "old" and 1.3 and 1.4 considered "new"?

Yes. Upgrade your firmware and keep using 1.2 on the machine you want to record on.
-MegaZone, Sling Media Beta Manager
Slingbox Pro, HD Connect, TiVo Series3, TiVo Pioneer DVR-810H, SPM Treo 680, SP WinXP
(I also run GizmoLovers.com)
Or use both. I keep copies of both on my laptop, allowing me to use the At-Large Recorder when desired.
You will want to rename the original installation directory before installing the upgraded version, otherwise the new version will overwrite the old version.
Does 1.2 work with the Slingbox AV? (thats what I have) I've been looking all over the place for the 1.2 software and I thought since it's not worth anything without the hardware, I'd be able to find it.. but it's nowhere to be found.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for your time,
matt
You can find most of what you need in this thread:
http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thread/21736
You will also find a link to the older player that is needed to work with the At-Large Recorder.

After installing slingplayer 1.4 I tried to install 1.2 so that I could attempt to record. However as soon as I click the install on the 1.2 I am told that Slingplayer detects a newer version and aborts the install. I do not even get the opportunity to choose a different install path. I'm sure there is a simple fix to this, I just don't know it. Can anyone give me some advice?
Thanks.
Try renaming the original directory where SlingPlayer 1.4 is installed. The Player will still execute, but the 1.2 version will not see it.

At-Large-Recorder came out with version 2 and it says it works with all versions of slingbox. Of course I'm afraid to upgrade. LOL Has anyone tried? (refering to the upgrading of their slingbox I'm not worried about upgrading my at large recorder)
