I cant not tell you how much the following gigantic issue simply evaporated for me after I read Arikson77's email ... so I wrote the following intro and quote his instructions directly because it works and now I am a happy guy...
Hello, Dish ViP622 owners with their new SlingBox (Pro) trying to find (as I did} the answer to your deepest consternation (or aggravating factor) about the unit IR blaster not working ------ grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…. Have no fear, I found the way to fix this and this is not widely made available --- but here it is --- only took me four hours of research and find Arikson77…and his well based protocal from Dish actually works like a charm if you read his words and have Vip622 Dish Remote 1 in your hand … but you have to watch the remote and your TV! And pay attention to what is happening and follow his instructions … I am free and clear now and my Sling can Sling to Thailand? ---Well, that is another challenge… so here we go and read with both eyes and focus please!!!!!!!
Arikson77 wrote ---- ”Today we were finally able to solve this (IR) problem. By speaking simultaneously to someone in advance support at Dish Network as well as someone at Slingbox, we got it working. Here is what the problem was: Apparently the devices (both the slingbox and the dish receiver) operate on channels called receiver codes. Its almost like radio channels they told me. The slingbox operates on receiver code one. Somehow, my dish receiver was operating on receiver code 9 so I had to change the dish receiver to code 1. Here is how I did it (I think! I was so excited when it worked that I wrote it down after the fact so if this doesn't work, I apologize, but someone at Dish should be able to help you do it!). From the primary remote/remote 1 (if you have a dual receiver), press menu twice. You will see System Info and toward the bottom, it shows the Primary (and secondary) Remote Address. There is a white box that has the receiver code. As I said, mine said 9 and it needs to say 1. To change it, follow these steps:
*Hold down the Sat key (upper left of the dish remote) until all the buttons at the top light up. Let go of the key.
*Press 1, then pound key, then record.
*Press the Sat key again. The white box next to Primary Remote Address should now read 1.
Exit the menu and try your slingbox control again. It worked immediately for me.
(ME TOO!) Again, if my directions for changing the address are incomplete, call Dish and explain what you need to change and ask for advanced support to do it.
Good luck!”
I want to give 10,000 kudos to Arikson77 for his brilliant explaination of how to solve the IR issue and I hope we can broadcast it to all the Dish Slingers out there. So basically all you need to do --- is to fix your Primary Remote Address on your Dish satellite remote #1 to "1" and then your Slingbox remote online will work like a charm! DVR as well. How sweet it that? Simply follow the above blow-by-blow instructions for the ViP622 and you will sleep better tonight. About the remote access to your 'slinky box' online ---- Well, I will get back to you on that one if I hit another brick wall.. Thanks for reading and once again my special thanks to Arikson77. He figured it out for all of us ... BRAVO!
