I have just hooked up my Slingbox HR20 to my Slingbox Classic.

I can control my HR 20 for stuff like guide, menu, channel up and down, but I can't punch in channel numbers in like 101 (the numbers on the remote are greyed out)

In addition the LIST and ACTION Buttons are also greyed out,  I can't watch my DVRed show as I can't press the LIST key to get to my recorded shows.

But one of the keys I need the DASH Key (-) is also greyed out.

Can anyone tell me how I can get these keys working?

Thanks!

You must have choosen the wrong model when setting up the box initially. Rerun the a/v connection wizard and choose the DirecTV H20 model. Although you have an HR 20, the H20 codes work everything on the unit as it has the same remote.

I have tried H20 those buttons are also still greyed out.

I also just downloaded the remote update pack from SlingMedia.COM and also no luck.

This an original Slinbox,  I purchased it the day Sling Hit the shelf.

I have a slingbox pro and it works with the H20 remote option selected with all features/buttons intact. Might I suggest you looking into if there is a more current or "updated" firware release available for the classic; as I'm not sure on that model.

aw did a quick search on the forum to reveal your issues underlying problem. Your box needs a new firware releasse. See this thread and pay special attention to the last post on page 2 and all the posts on page 3 in regards to this matter I've also pasted some of them here:

smileyw,

I to am in the same situation as you. I also just upgraded from the HR10-250 to the HR20-700 and have the same buttons greyed out on my remote. I read in another thread that some early Slingbox Classics were released with less memeory to store these button finuctions. I'm still trying to get ahold of suport to confirm this.

Thanks!

Talked to Tech Support. They tell me there is nothing wrong with my Slingbox Classic, it just needs an updated firmaware and software for the HR20-700.

Per tech support fill out this form and request an update:

http://us.slingmedia.com/object/kb-005163.html

They said "The more requests the better"! So please fill out two or three!

;-)

Thank you!

Scott, please give Support a call. They will be able to verify if you have one of the original Slingbox Classic units which used a different IR chip and we may need to swap your box.

I just got off the phone with Sling Support (Yamil). He wasn't going to budge. He told me the HR21 was not on the official supported list, so therefore he could not help me. We went around in circles a few times, but ultimately he wouldn't budge off the official party line. By the way, the SlingCommunity is not official information, so Sling doesn't have to follow what is said on the message boards.

I have an old classic (hardware version 1.0.2) that only partially controls the  HR21. I would  like full functionality.

I almost like the SlingMedia of days gone by. Feels like a big company now that can't help the customer if they have a problem that isn't in Tech Supports scripted response list.

Sherman, check out the new Control Junkies section of the forum. I've back-doored a few unreleased remote files, including the HR21. Directions and downloads can be found there:

If that doesn't resolve the issue or if you need install assistance, please send me a private note and we'll get you squared away.
